ABE GOLDBERG

1922 - 2017

Abe Goldberg March 14, 1922- October 3, 2017 He liked the saying "All that Glitters Isn't Gold," He was a sprightly, young 95, which isn't THAT old. Tomatoes and root beer were the secret, he claims, He even still remembered all his teachers' names. He was a sports almanac, played golf every Friday, And, like Sinatra, he said, "I did it my way." In our town of El Paso, he had a status of fame, And when it came to golf, "It's only a game." He loved his family, who are all quite nutty, He still had lunch with Milton, Bobby, and Bernie, his old school buddies. In seventy-five years of driving he never got a ticket, He was a social butterfly, never any crickets! "Get me some salami," he'd say when he came over, He was as rare a find as a four-leaf clover. He liked researching old mysteries from People magazine, He liked U2, 50 Cent, X-ibit and everything in between. Any restaurant he'd visit, he'd order the "number one," When it came to telling jokes, he was second to none. His sweet disposition was oh-so bright, Like his favorite song says, "I could have danced all night." He was one of the oldest alumni of Texas School of Mines, That's what UTEP was called back in those times. He was a proud supporter of the sports teams in town, He was a fixture at games, he really got around! Supreme Laundry and Cleaners he owned and operated, He always dressed the best, as if he were movie star fated, Anything you needed, he was there in a flash, He always wore a smile and loved a good bash. He was known for fixing potholes, for that he had a knack, He fixed hundreds of potholes, yes, that's a fact! He loved El Paso, thought it was so pretty, He did his small part to keep up our city. The love of his life was his beautiful Annette, They had a wonderful marriage, the greatest love yet. Abe and Annette were a marvelous pair, And they traveled the world with oh-so-much flair. He loved his family, and we loved him back, Always brought brightness, there was never a lack. Between his kids, their spouses, and his grandchildren, too, He had a rich and full life, he'd be the first to tell you! Ninety-five years old and he was still the man, Ninety-five years old and not even a bedpan! We are the lucky ones, that much is true, Lucky to have had a Husband, Father, Dad, and Grandpa as AMAZING as you!Abe is survived by son Howard and wife Mona Goldberg; daughter Lory and husband Jonny Rogers; daughter Mindy and husband Meyer Marcus; and grandkids: Shea, Ben, and Mila Marcus; Sydney, Brett, and Hannah Goldberg; and JW and Garland Rogers. A special thank you to Nancy Centeno and Gladis Martinez, and Claudia Reveles from Cima Hospice, who took care of Abe the last years of his life. Services will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at 11:00 am at the B'nai Zion Cemetery located at 3700 E. Yandell, El Paso, Texas. Pallbearers: Brett Goldberg, Benjamin Marcus, Fred Kent, Steve Lauterbach, Carlos Martinez, JW Rogers III, Rhett Kent, Randy Wechter, and Ryan Wechter. Honorary Pallbearers: Frankie Altus, Milton Cherno, Bobby Goldfarb, Sidney Kent, Bernie Lauterbach, Dr. Bob Rosen, Jimmy Velasquez, Cesar Viramontes, and Ken Walker.
