To the Navarrette family,
I was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Al and I know he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. He was the best the Greatest Generation had to offer. He inspired those of us currently serving to be just as good as he was when he served with the 35th Infantry Division during WWII. His service and sacrifice and your unwavering support to him will never be forgotten.
It was an honor and privilege for me to have met and shared some time with Al. His impact during the War and just as important the life he led upon returning home are a testament to the difference one man can make in this world.
Godspeed Al, and to your family God Bless. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

For over half a century, we have known Abelardo Navarrette and his family ever since we were the first 2 families to move into the Del Norte Ranchland neighborhood. Abelardo was a godfather to David Monticone and confirmation godparent to Joseph Monticone. Abelardo was simply known as Compadre. For years, the sounds of music and laughter resonated from the neighborhood and many times it came from the Navarrette home as Beto Morales on his guitar and our father, Joe Monticone on the piano/accordion played and the rest danced. It was the sound of family. And our families shared many life events and holiday celebrations together, and Joe and Al all through their lives and later years enjoyed a good cup of together--or a highball.
We thank Compadre for his service to this country , his heroism, and valor, and also salute him as a father, friend, a man with a golden wit, and his leadership in the community. The Monticone family will forever be indebted and blessed for the many years of his love and close friendship. RIP Compadre and enjoy Joe and Beto playing at the Pearly Gates welcoming you home. God bless you.
Love,
The Monticone Family

My heartfelt sympathy is with all the family!
I first met Al on the 35th Division Assoc. trip in 2004 for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of WWII and friendship continued through the Assoc reunions. Al was a quiet gentleman and when he spoke, it was worth hearing. He was truly one of the greatest and I will miss him. I have been enriched by knowing Al as he is one of my heroes and will never be forgotten. Prayers are with the family.
With love and sympathy,
Maggie Fenstermacher

Dear Susana, Juan, girls and entire family. Our deepest condolences on the passing of your father. Reading his obituary profiled his honorable and distinguished service to our country along with the love of your mother and family. I know that the sorrow is great but in the celebration of his life, the light of that life will lighten your heavy hearts. May God's grace and love bless you. May His strength be your strength. May the love you have and share with each other forever carry you forward. Smile, because everything that was him is you and your family. All our love, Diego, Rita, Louie & Kenny Morales
