BILL PEARCE Obituary

Retired El Paso veterinarian, Bill J. Pearce, passed away July 25, 2017. He was killed while bicycling near Salida, Colorado. He is survived by his sister, Penny, her husband, Earl, and niece, Samantha, his life partner of 32 years, Colleen Gavin, and his beloved kitties, Buddy (aka The Little General) and Purdy. Also surviving him are the "girls" at the Coronado Animal Clinic and their families, who he saw grow up in the years he ran the facility, as well a myriad of friends and clients who remember his unique personality and style. He was predeceased by two best buddies, Michael McCann and David Mann and doubtless is celebrating their very sudden reunion. Born in Rosenberg, TX, 1943, Bill attended Lamar Consolidated H.S., graduating Class of '61. He subsequently graduated from Texas A&M in 1968, spent four years at Yakota AFB in Japan, and eventually relocated to El Paso, where his then wife, Judy, planned to pursue a degree in Anthropology. He opened the Coronado Animal Clinic in 1975 and ran it until 2001 before placing it in the able hands of Dr. Roger Freund. Thereafter, he dedicated his time and surgical talents to various Spay and Neuter programs in Texas and New Mexico. He also volunteered his exemplary skills in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and in Puerto Penasco with Compassion Without Border. While Bill was extraordinarily generous and loving with his people friends, his great passion was animals, and his tender care enhanced the lives of thousands of local cats, dogs, and even rabbits. Please submit donations in their names to: Loyal Duke's Dog Park, c/o Salida Dog Club, PO Box 1106, Salida, Colorado 81201, or to any animal rescue organization of your choice.

I am so saddened by the untimely death of a great high school friend Bill. He was always the life of the party and had such a generous heart. My prayers are with his sister, Penny, her husband Earl and niece Samantha along with his dear friend and companion Colleen. Bill left many fond memories of our days at Lamar High School. His sense of humor and great personality will be a memory I'll always cherish.

Bill and I were classmates at Lamar Colsolidated High School in Rosenberg and graduated the same night in 1961. He was a kind dude always. At our class reunions he would bring smiles to so many faces if only to reflect his own smile and happy attitude!

Bill Pearce was one of a kind. A true Compassion Cowboy. Foul mouthed sweetheart. Bold, unique spirit with a big old heart that he kept wide open and used to help so many animals.

His smile could light up a room and his humor would leave you laughing for days.

Bill donated a great deal of his time to help us help the animals of Mexico. He made a huge impact south of the border and will always be remembered as one of the kindest, most incredible people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

I love you Bill and sure am sorry you are gone.

Bless his heart, Doc would come and "shoot" all 13 of my wild, bad, big dogs that I had "saved" at the house just so I wouldn't have to try and load them up and bring them to the office. He was a life saver! And a good man. A real loss to El Paso and animals everywhere.

What a great soul Bill was. I have never met a more irreverent man who was so amusing, caring, and loving. He cared for my first schnauzer, helping him limp through minor illnesses. A true Aggie, out of the earth of central Texas, he was a stalwart in our community, helping to spay and neuter animals who weren't going to be bred. West Texas and Colorado lost a really bright light in Bill's passing in such a violent way.
