Felix Alonzo Obituary

Our beloved Felix, "Wero", Alonzo passed away on the night of Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the youthful age of 51. He was born on July 14, 1958 to Adelna, "Lina", and Catalino, "Pacho", Alonzo in El Paso, Texas. Felix graduated from El Paso High School in 1976 and attended the University of Texas, El Paso. He spent some time working and living in both New Mexico and California before settling down in his North Las Vegas home and working as a store manager at Marshall's. He was a very devoted and well-respected leader in his professional endeavors and found both friendship and a sense of pride with many of his co-workers at Marshalls Stores # 204 and 873 in Las Vegas, NV. and Marshalls Store # 515 in San Ysidro, CA. Felix genuinely enjoyed his life and gave no apologies for the man he was, nor did he need to. He was an extremely generous and compassionate man who gave often to charities without hesitation. While he was intuitively good with money, he never desired to be a rich man, only a wise and genuine one. Felix had a capacity for deep respect and unconditional love that very few even come close to. He always put the needs of others, especially his close family, before his own and was always looking for ways to surpise us whether it be with gifts, unannounced visits, or spontaneous trips both nationally and abroad. Felix ultimately left us with one last surpise at his very sudden and unexpected departure from us. However, he left his family and friends with more than one lifetime's worth of fond memories with him. None of us will ever forget his infectious laugh, his ability to find humor in everyday life, his pride and optimism in both himself and those close to him, or his lifetime love of the Dallas Cowboys! Felix was preceded in death by his grandmother Paula A. Ruiz and his uncle Wulfrano, "Bote", Ruiz. Felix is survived by his wife Kim Alonzo, his daughters Stacey Michelle Alonzo and Jacquelyn Batton, his parents Adelina and Catalino Alonzo, his sisters Leticia Miller and Patricia Anne Alonzo, his brother Gilbert Alonzo, Sr., his nephews William Paul Miller, Eric David Miller, Robert Patrick Miller, Gilbert Alonzo Jr., Christopher Anthony Alonzo, his mother in-law Gertrude Scarlato, his brother in-laws William David, "Bill", Miller and Joe Scarlato, his sister in-laws Sue Scarlato, Jan Perone, and Chris Foss, and his beloved dogs Princess, Pee-wee, and Baby "La Weina". In lieu of flowers we ask that family and friends make a contribution to your church or faviorite charity in Felix Alonzo's name. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina. Vigil Service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 11700 Pebble Hills. Rite of Committal will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Alonzo Sr., Gilbert Alonzo Jr., Chris Alonzo, Bill Miller, William Paul Miller, Eric Miller, Robert Miller and Joe Scarlato. We miss Felix so dearly already and will continue to until the day we meet with him again. However, his presence is still strongly felt, and he is always and forever alive in our thoughts, prayers, and our hearts. We are deeply shocked and saddened by his passing, yet we are comforted by the thought that such a religiously devoted man as he was can now be at eternal peace.

My sincerest sympathy to the Alonzo Family. I remember, when we were kids, Wero and I were sitting on the backyard porch steps and he was telling me about Princess (his German Shephard then)getting a bone stuck between her teeth and how he had to take her to the Vet to get it out. I think it hurt him more than it did Princess. I knew then how passionate and loving my cousin was. Its an emptier world with out him, but we'll see each other again some glorious day and then we will catch up on all our days we spent in the world. God Bless You All, my prayers are with you. Your Cousin Sonia.
