Fernando Grajeda Obituary
El Paso - On Saturday, August 29, 2020, Fernando (Fernie) Grajeda, loving husband and father, went to be with our Lord at the age of 72.
Fernie was born August 16, 1948 in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. While attending UTEP, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam and Japan. Fernie was a proud Marine! He married Maria C. (Tina) in 1975. He was employed at the US Postal Service where he started as a letter carrier, trained the first female letter carriers in El Paso, obtained multiple promotions and retired as a Safety Specialist.
Fernie was preceded in death by his father Ascención, mother María de Jesus, and brother Richard. He is survived by his wife Tina, his five children Sonia, Cynthia, Zandra, Gloria and Miguel, grandchildren Emmalee, Azalea and Fernando, his sister Carmen, brothers Francisco, Ascención Jr., and Alberto, many brothers- and sisters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers and friends.
Fernie was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be held Sunday, September 13, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM with a Rosary at 3:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, 750 N. Carolina. Interment will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 14, 2020 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net
El sábado 29 de agosto del 2020, Fernando (Fernie) Grajeda, amado esposo y padre, partió a estar con Nuestro Señor a la edad de 72 años. Fernie nació el 16 de agosto de 1948 en El Paso, Texas. Se graduó de Jefferson High School en 1966. Mientras asistía a la UTEP, se enlistó en el Cuerpo de Marines y sirvió en Vietnam y Japón. ¡Fernie era un infante de marina orgulloso! Se casó con María C. (Tina) en 1975. Trabajó en el Servicio Postal de Estados Unidos, donde comenzó como cartero, capacitó a las primeras carteros en El Paso, obtuvo múltiples promociones y se retiró como Especialista en Seguridad. Fernie fue precedido en muerte por su padre Ascención, su madre María de Jesús y su hermano Richard. Le sobrevive su esposa Tina, sus cinco hijos: Sonia, Cynthia, Zandra, Gloria y Miguel, sus nietos: Emmalee, Azalea y Fernando, su hermana Carmen, sus hermanos: Francisco, Ascención Jr. y Alberto, muchos hermanos y nueras, yernos, sobrinas, sobrinos, primos, compañeros de trabajo y amigos. Fernie era muy querido y se le echará mucho de menos. Se llevará a cabo una reunión de recuerdo el domingo 13 de septiembre del 2020 de 1:00 p.m. a 5:00 p.m. con el rosario a las 3:00 p.m. en Sunset Funeral Homes-East, en el 750 N. Carolina. Sir, as a fellow Marine I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USMC in Vietnam. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Expressing a moment of sympathy and sadness at this time to the wife and family of Fernando "Fernie" Grajeda. Fernie will sorely be missed by all. I first met Fernie at the Ranchland Station Post Office. I was assigned to take his route on my very first day at the station. He praised me for taking his route and I responded by saying, "You have a MAN KILLER ROUTE" because it was an entirely 100 percent WALKING route from the station. (Whether the outside temps were 100 plus degrees or down to FREEZING outdoors) Fernie was well respected and well known. He was a very successful and motivated person during his postal career. May he have everlasting rest and peace.
