George Pohan

George Pohan (82) died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Pohan, and his seven brothers and sisters. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was honorably discharged. He moved to El Paso and taught and coached at El Paso High in the 1950's. He later worked for U.S. Plywood in Baltimore, Maryland and Richmond, Virginia. He then moved to Fort Worth to work for Spalding Sports Company. On returning to El Paso in 1969, he worked and later retired from Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed golfing trips with his wife and friends as golf was his life long passion. He is survived by his wife, Jenny, his son Kirk, his daughter-in-law Gloria, his daughter Kimberly, and his son-in-law Michael Rhodes; his grandchildren Amanda Sommer and her husband Matthias, Michael and Shannon Rhodes, Valerie, Jonathan, and Hannah Pohan, and great-granddaughter Iris Sommer. Graveside Services will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 29th under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home.
