George Pohan Obituary

George Pohan (82) died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Pohan, and his seven brothers and sisters. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was honorably discharged. He moved to El Paso and taught and coached at El Paso High in the 1950's. He later worked for U.S. Plywood in Baltimore, Maryland and Richmond, Virginia. He then moved to Fort Worth to work for Spalding Sports Company. On returning to El Paso in 1969, he worked and later retired from Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed golfing trips with his wife and friends as golf was his life long passion. He is survived by his wife, Jenny, his son Kirk, his daughter-in-law Gloria, his daughter Kimberly, and his son-in-law Michael Rhodes; his grandchildren Amanda Sommer and her husband Matthias, Michael and Shannon Rhodes, Valerie, Jonathan, and Hannah Pohan, and great-granddaughter Iris Sommer. Graveside Services will be held at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 29th under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home. Mr. Pohan,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Hello Aunt Jenny,
you and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers over the past couple of weeks. It's hard to know exactly waht to say in times like this.... just hope you are holding up ok ...
I hope to get Mom successfully through her carotid surgery this week...she did well on her heart stress test... so hope same outcome for the carotids!!!!
