Your one and only son happens to be the love of my life. And your daughter is my most treasured friend. You can see you in your sons eyes, they tell lauri that her laugh is similar to yours. I want to thank you for bringing your son into this world. Because of that I have found the person I will spend my life with. We plan to name our son after you. Thank you for bringing your daughter into this world, she got me through the darkest of times. And also led me to your son. And last but not least, thank you for serving for our country, for protecting us. I will never forget you. And I will forever help your children pass on your legacy.

Israel it has been two years and almost a month since your passing. In that time both of our children have graduated and are becoming productive, young members of society. You would be so proud of them as I am. Times have been hard but your presence has been felt. Continue to watch over them as they both start new chapters in life. Izzy will be in culinary school and Rissa will start at the branch to begin radiology. IJ looks like you more than ever and Rissa has so many of your goofy ways. Your legacy lives on through our children and there is a deep void left by your absence. Thank you for your service and the freedoms you fought so hard for to leave them. Yes you are a true American Hero to us and many but to them you are so much more than that. Your best role is Daddy and these last two years they have remembered all the good times as have I. Memorial Day 2012, an American Flag was placed at the end of my sidewalk. Again this morning was a flag, this time with a note explaining that the flag was in Memory of Staff Sergeant Israel Nuanes. Although I did not have the privilege of knowing this fine man, I wanted you to know that, thanks to his family and/or friends in Waco, Texas today, I and all of my neighbors recognized the sacrifice he made on behalf of our beloved country. I hope that this post brings you a measure of comfort knowing that he is not forgotten, and that indeed, his sacrifice has become known by even more people. God bless you on this special day honoring our heroes.

I had the honor of escorting Israel to the Farm and Ranch Museum yesterday as part of the Patriot Guard, and after hearing you all speak about him at the service a song that I love came to mind and I thought about Israel. When I got home I listened to the song and based on the stories you shared I thought that song was perfect for him. The Final Salute
