Hello Israel,
Your one and only son happens to be the love of my life. And your daughter is my most treasured friend. You can see you in your sons eyes, they tell lauri that her laugh is similar to yours. I want to thank you for bringing your son into this world. Because of that I have found the person I will spend my life with. We plan to name our son after you. Thank you for bringing your daughter into this world, she got me through the darkest of times. And also led me to your son. And last but not least, thank you for serving for our country, for protecting us. I will never forget you. And I will forever help your children pass on your legacy.

It's been three years since I last saw your handsome face and heard your comforting words over the computer, my beloved Israel. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you and our wonderful life together. When life knocked you down, you always managed to push forward with your head held high. You are my inspiration to live life to the fullest and your loving presence comforts my heart with our memories. We held a bond like no other and I'm thankful to have been your wife. We celebrate your life and will love you forever. We Remember...<3

Israel it has been two years and almost a month since your passing. In that time both of our children have graduated and are becoming productive, young members of society. You would be so proud of them as I am. Times have been hard but your presence has been felt. Continue to watch over them as they both start new chapters in life. Izzy will be in culinary school and Rissa will start at the branch to begin radiology. IJ looks like you more than ever and Rissa has so many of your goofy ways. Your legacy lives on through our children and there is a deep void left by your absence. Thank you for your service and the freedoms you fought so hard for to leave them. Yes you are a true American Hero to us and many but to them you are so much more than that. Your best role is Daddy and these last two years they have remembered all the good times as have I. We stay quiet but we respect you always and will love you forever!

Memorial Day 2012, an American Flag was placed at the end of my sidewalk. Again this morning was a flag, this time with a note explaining that the flag was in Memory of Staff Sergeant Israel Nuanes. Although I did not have the privilege of knowing this fine man, I wanted you to know that, thanks to his family and/or friends in Waco, Texas today, I and all of my neighbors recognized the sacrifice he made on behalf of our beloved country. I hope that this post brings you a measure of comfort knowing that he is not forgotten, and that indeed, his sacrifice has become known by even more people. God bless you on this special day honoring our heroes.

My beloved husband, partner in crime and best friend...it has been a year since you became our angel and I still have trouble wondering how I'm suppose to live life without you. I have been told repeatedly that time will heal. I wish it was true. Mi corazon, you are the love of my life and the light that lifts my spirits. May you Rest In Peace with your Mami and may the lives you touched continue your legacy. I will love you beyond my last breath. As we always said, "Goodnight, my love. Goodnight, my everything."

Hello,
We would like to let the Nuanes Family know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and will be dedicating some of these to your loved one. Each package will carry a name, photo and hometown of SSGT Nuanes. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across our nation. May God Bless you.

To the family of Staff Sgt. Nuanes-Please know that the sacrifice your husband and father made are not forgotten. I recently ran my first half marathon(Soldier Marathon and Half @ Ft. Benning,GA.)and wore his name on my race bib. I chose to train and run in this event because I have a son currently serving in the same area, Kandahar province. His mission is route clearance. I pray that you are well and wanted to let you know your father and husband's service and ultimate sacrifice has not been forgotten.

My beloved husband, I think about you & our adventures everyday. I love & miss you more than words can describe. Forever yours & forever remembered...

My deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of Israel. We met in high school and his sense of humor made many classes more bearable. He managed to stay dedicated, involved and maintain a positive outlook during his time in Casa Grande, AZ. He obviously continued those qualities in adult life.

June 29, 2012

There no words that I can express..., he was truly a great kid. I went to high school with him and he just always had a smile and kind word. He was very funny! We had many classes together and he was on wrestling team with my brother. Please know that he was very much loved and admired here in Casa Grande.

I had the honor of escorting Israel to the Farm and Ranch Museum yesterday as part of the Patriot Guard, and after hearing you all speak about him at the service a song that I love came to mind and I thought about Israel. When I got home I listened to the song and based on the stories you shared I thought that song was perfect for him. The song is Born Free by Kid Rock, from this day forward everytime I hear that song I will think of him, hope it will do the same for you. God Bless.

To tell you that we feel your pain and your heartache is so true. We also lost our son 5 years ago during his second tour in Iraq SSG Jesse Williams.

Remember no one can never take your memories away from you. Soon you will know that all of those wonderful memories that you have for your Israel will turn into treasures for you.

We are so lucky to have angels that are also our heroes.
To be willing to give your all for your country, that is all anyone has to say. "Thank you Israel so much for your service to our country". Now is the time to be as strong as Israel has been for all of us. We send to you our love and our prayers.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Israel will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

SSGT. Nuanes & Family:

Although I did not know you, I just wanted to express my condolences and gratitude for the sacrifice you have made for this country and it's citizens. It is because of the courage you and others like you have displayed that I am able to enjoy the liberties and freedoms that I do, and for that I am truly grateful. We often forget about the reasons why we are able to enjoy the lives we live until a HERO such as yourself is lost and that is unfortunate. God Bless you and your family and may he watch over you all. Again Thank You for your service and sacrifice, rest easy SSGT. Nuanes.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, SSG Israel P. Nuanes, U.S. Army. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Israel. And to Israel it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Israel you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love and patriotism are shown than when a man lays down his life in service to his country. Israel, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Israel's family and loved ones.
