James Jackson Obituary

James Raymond Jackson, a long time resident of El Paso, Texas, passed away on January 26, 2008, at the age of 65. He was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on October 25, 1942, to the late Raymond Monroe and Hope McAteer Jackson of El Dorado, Arkansas. Jim attended El Dorado High School which prided itself on giving a much higher education to its students. He excelled in high school academically, and received a football scholarship to Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. There, he also excelled academically as well as in his favorite sport of football. He made a name for himself in basketball and track too. Jim loved the Dallas Cowboys and football remained one of his greatest interests throughout his life. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed reading everything from mysteries to historical novels, and science fiction fantasy. Jim took R.O.T.C. in college and joined the United States Army after graduation as a Second Lieutenant. He served in the army for 10 years in Air Defense Artillery. In 1966, Jim and Diane Fisher Jackson met while Jim was stationed at Ft. Bliss. They married and had two beautiful children- Troy Jackson, 39 and Erin Jackson, 37. Jim and Diane lived in Germany for two army assignments as well as in San Pedro, California, and Ft. Bliss again for a second assignment. Jim also served in Vietnam. Jim was a wonderful husband and father. After being medically retired as a Captain from the army, he took care of the children while Diane went back to work as a school teacher with the El Paso Independent School District. Jim and Diane had a wonderful marriage in which they shared many happy family times. Jim will be greatly missed by his wife and children. We love you very much!!! Dianne, Troy, and Erin,
I am so sorry for your loss. I was around 15 the last time I saw Jimmy. He was always so kind. Troy was just a baby. Maybe one day we will all get to meet.

With Deepest Sympathy, Carolyn Nutt Thomas

I remember Jimmy as a young man at family reunions. Jimmy was my cousin and oftentimes my aunt said that my son looked a lot like Jimmy.
