JOHN ARENIVAR

1957 - 2015

John David Arenivar, age 58, of Hastings, MN, passed away at home on December 6 after a 9-month battle with cancer. John was born on December 4, 1957 in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Burges High School in 1975. He was a 1975 Presidential Scholar and received an award from President Gerald Ford at the White House. John received a B.S. in Chemistry from MIT in 1979 and a Ph.D in Chemistry from UC Berkeley in 1983. John worked at 3M in Maplewood, MN as a patent researcher since 1998. John was recognized for his voluntary work for the United Way and his work in his community. John is survived by his wife Becky of Hastings, by his daughter Madeleine, son-in-law Ricardo and grandson Hugo of Quito, Ecuador, by his son David, and by his daughter Isabel. John also is survived by his parents Alfredo and Soledad Arenivar of El Paso, and by his siblings, Jody (Irma), James (Tami), Terry Velez (Abel), Tony (Lupe), and Angie Sprague. A memorial gathering was be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22 in Hastings, MN. A future memorial will be held for John David in El Paso. Arrangements are pending and will be announced as soon as they are completed. The Arenivar family would like to thank all their friends and relatives for their prayers and well wishes while he was fighting his battle with Lymphoma.
