It was with Dr Alva´s vision that Border Children´s clinics were established. He loved children and clearly did not suffer foolish behavior that negatively affected children. Wow! Where to begin? Just discovered your memory book by chance, Jose, my mentor and dear friend. Let me address you in the first person, as you will always be alive in spirit in the confidence you instilled in me as not just one of your pediatric residents at Thomason in the mid 70's but also the kinship you shared with me and others who came over from WBAMC to learn from you. It has been just over 40 years since I last saw you, but I will never forget the man and professor I knew then. You are the most learned and studious pediatrician I to this day have ever met and I cherish the knowledge and expertise you shared then with me. Now I remember where I got the term "old as dirt" that I have used the last decade or so, as I semiretired, that one of your memory keepers mentioned. I also remember how you taught me to be confident in my limited knowledge and skills back then, when as you left for the day when I would be on solo call for the night and you would say to me, in your inimitable way and accent, "Cheep"-"take care of the house tonight; no need to call me for anything, you're in charge; I trust you..........see you at morning report." Rest easy, dear Friend and Mentor, you worked diligently and through great difficulties to deserve to relax and observe us from above, now. I know where you are, and I look forward to seeing you again some day.

I am so sadden to hear of Dr.Alva passing. He waa,my sons pediatrician from the very first hours he was born till his passing. Always made us laughs with his corny jokes. My son is 14 years now, and we are so heartbroken. May you Now Rest In Peace and Thank You for Caring For My Son through his growing years! Dr. Alva was AMAZING! I was saddened learning of his passing. I went to Dr. Alva as a child and my daughter went to him until about a month before his passing. THANK YOU so much for caring for us all. God bless!!

Dr. Alva was the most caring, compassionate, knowledgeable doctor for our three children. I loved hearing his stories but my favorite saying was he always told me he was older than dirt. He made me laugh and he took such excellent care of our kids: Mason, William, and Corbin.
We will miss you greatly, Dr. Alva. We know you are in a better place with our Lord.

I just found out that my kids beloved pediatrician passed away and I'm so sadden by his departure from this life. We are so greatful for his years of advise and care to all of my children... Now all adults. Specially to my daughter Nicole. He always helped me in time of desperate need and gave me advise to care for my special needs daughter. Alway went beyond the call of duty. We will miss you very much . Our thoughts and prayers to all his family specially his wife. God bless you always.

My Deepest Condolences on a great Dr. He was my children's Pediatrician. Always sat down with his legs crossed and talk to me and he was genuine, kind and polite. I will miss him. Tuve la satisfacción de saludarlo y ofrecerle mis respetos por última vez este jueves. Me dio gusto verlo muy reposado y elegante, con su corbata y saco gris, pero además con su estetoscopio, ese estetoscopio que con sus manos grandes usted siempre frotaba para entibiarlo antes de colocarlo sobre el pechito o espaldita de mis hijos, a lo largo de los últimos 10 años de su brillante y generosa carrera profesional como pediatra en esta frontera Juárez-El Paso que lo conocí. Le agradezco la confianza de sus conversaciones y anécdotas en Guadalajara (antes de venir a estas tierras del norte), sus sabios consejos y la certeza de sus diagnósticos de la que múltiples generaciones de niños (muchos de ellos hoy adolescentes y adultos) se vieron beneficiadas. Váyase sin cuidado doctor, que su legado aquí queda, bien clarito, en la historia de la medicina de Juarez-El Paso y en los corazones de todos nosotros. Yo voy a extrañarlo con su bata blanca y su mirada bondadosa desde el interior del consultorio hacia la sala de espera, dando la bienvenida a un nuevo paciente. Gracias de nuevo doctor y que le vaya muy bien !!

My condolences to Dr. Alva's family.
He was an awesome doctor to my 3 kids. My oldest is 29 and my youngest is 18. My daughter saw the post on Kvia website last night and broke down in tears. She loved him. And even though she hadn't seen him in about a year she holds him in her heart. She was remembering how he used to play with her while doing his checkups. Specially when she got the swine flu.
My heart is sad. He will be greatly missed. As I write this I have tears in my eyes.
May he rest in peace with God and his angels.

Dr. Alva was my childrens pediatrician for many years. He was a loving, caring human being and I trusted his valued opinion whenever it came to the health of my children. I was saddened to hear of his passing but am grateful for all the care and advise he gave my family! May GOD BLESS him and his family!

In 2003 my seven year old son asked me to mail a letter he had written to Dr. Alva. I'm glad I took the opportunity to thank Dr. Alva for taking care of our two son's (from birth until now) and especially for being Adam's hero.
