JOSE PRIETO

1935 - 2016

Jose "Joe" Prieto was a diehard Boston Red Sox fan and proud Democrat. Born on March 18, 1935 to Julia Rubio and Benito Prieto, Joe passed away Friday, February 26, 2016. At age 17, Joe met Antonia "Toni" at a Bowie High School party. Toni, his wife of 60 years, became the love of his life, travel companion, and duet partner. Joe will be greatly missed by his wife and three children: Patricia P. Montano, Dr. Jose Prieto Jr. and Sylvia (John) Prieto Dion. He is beloved grandfather to James (Cara) Montano, Anthony Montano, Julia (Adriel) Prieto Cepeda, Adrian (Jennifer) Prieto, Roberto, Gabriella and Carlos Dion. Joe worked for many years as a traffic supervisor at Farah, and retired as a Century 21 broker/realtor. He believed meals should be enjoyed at leisure, that Johnny Cash was the greatest musician of his time, and in the simple pleasure of a Las Vegas trip with his wife. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church for 40 years. He was a Eucharistic Minister and served many ministries including choir, evangelization, and R.C.I.A. The family would like to thank: Dr. Christine Hernandez and her staff, especially Gustavo, Sandra, Sally, and Joanna; Dr. P. Vallilis and members of his staff, Jennifer, Orlando, and Evelyn; and Dr. Abraham Gonzalez and his staff. The family also thanks The Providence Adult Infusion Center, especially Perry, Veronica, Pam, and Aurora. A very special thank you to La Mariposa Hospice - especially Melissa and JoJo - who brought him compassion and comfort in his last few months. Thanks also to Vickie Sedevy, Liz Westerlink, Rosie Prieto, and Ernie Alvarez for always being there to help when needed. Joe joins his parents Julia Rubio and Benito Prieto, his brothers Nick and Benny, and his sister Lilly Ramirez. Visitation March 3rd from 5-9pm, rosary 7pm at San Jose Funeral Home-East. Funeral mass March 4th at 10am at St. Pius X Church 1050 N. Clark St. Interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
