Maria Fresquez Obituary

Maria Dolores Fresquez, born January 14, 1936 in Socorro, TX, was called by Our Lord on November 3, 2010 after a mercifully brief battle with cancer, to join her parents, Juan Angel Fresquez and Manuela Cortez Fresquez and her brother-in-law, Jose Luis Enciso in heaven. Maria was brought up on the family farm in Socorro, TX, graduated from Ysleta High School, and attended Texas Western College at El Paso, where she met Louis Howard Keeler, her husband of 20 years. They moved to Los Angeles CA and raised their 2 children there. Maria was a caring loving woman who devoted her entire life to caring for others; always putting the needs of her children and grandchildren and others ahead of her own. In life she loved to travel, taking her grandson Brandon with her to spend summers with her daughter and her family in Juneau Alaska; going on cruises with her sisters, ballroom dancing, singing, reading, roses, volunteering at the elementary school and St. Vincent de Paul, and keeping current with politics. Even in death, her caring of others continued with her donation of her corneas so that two others could have the gift of sight. Maria is survived by her daughter Susan Christine Thompson (Gary) of Juneau Alaska, son James Martin Keeler of Blythe, CA, and grandchildren, Lucas Thompson and Brandon Keeler. Maria is also survived by her 10 siblings: Estanislao Fresquez (Dominga), Ines Fresquez Enciso, Juan Fresquez (Alicia), Sister Catalina Fresquez CCVI, Luis Fresquez (Cecilia), Vicente Fresquez (Beth), Margarita "Daisy" Zaske (Robert), Monica Mucchetti, Marta Fresquez, Ana Barry (Mike) Also survived by numerous nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles, and cousins. A rosary service was held on Friday, November 5, 2010 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word at St Joseph Chapel in San Antonio. The Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, November 12, at 1030 a.m. at La Purisima Catholic Mission, 321 N. Nevarez, Socorro, TX, with the Rev. Fr. Marcus McFadin presiding. Her ashes will be interred at the Shrine of St Therese in Juneau in a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in Maria's memory to the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, 4503 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209-6297.

Dearest brothers, sisters, Susan & Gary, James Brandon, Lucas
Mary was a beautiful sister. I shall miss her, but take comfort in the fact that she is with Mom, Dad and Jose Luis. God did not wish for her to suffer, so He called her home much to soon - for us, NOT for Him. Will love you and miss you always, Mary.

Dearest Brothers and Sisters,

God gave us a BEAUTIFUL sister in Maria. We cherished every moment we had with her. It is hard coming up with comforting words at a time like this so I will ask Our Heavenly Father to give everyone Peace in your heart in knowing that Maria is sharing in his glory from now and forever. Love, sis Ana

Dearest Susan, James, Gary, Brandon and Lucas;

Our Lord thought of all of you from the beginning, so He sent our beloved sister Maria to be your mom/grandma. We know that you will sorely miss her, but take comfort in the fact that she is where she was meant to be, with Our Loving Father in Heaven and all the angels and saints. Our Lord is with you in this most difficult time of your lives. Take comfort in that. You will always have the support of the family. We love you! Tia Annie and Uncle Mike

To the Family of Maria Fresquez;
Maria worked in our group, Zoning Administration, in the City of San Diego. We enjoyed working with her, and loved her feisty personality. And at one of our dinners we learned how much she loved to dance.
You have our deepest sympathies,
Joe Flynn, Zoning Administrator, Ret.

Dearest Catalina: My condolances on the death of your sister. We all know the sorrow on losing someone we love so much. We also, however, believe in the Resurection and know and this is what brings us peace. May the Lord always be with you and your family in this difficult time. Miss you lots.
