MAURICE INGRAM Obituary

Dr. Maurice Dean Ingram passed away January 28, 2013 after an extended battle with a heart ailment. Maurice was born to Hiram and Opal Cannon Ingram in Nodaway County, Missouri on May 21, 1932. Maurice graduated from Hopkins High School, Hopkins, Missouri then attended Boise State University, Boise, Idaho and Northwest Missouri State University on basketball scholarships and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Industrial Education 1954. He married Marilyn Jean Litton from Lock Springs, Missouri at the Presbyterian Church in Maryville, MO. He was drafted into the Army and sent to Fort Bliss, Texas for 8 weeks of basic training and then was assigned to the Air Defense School at Fort Bliss and graduated in May 1955. The next assignment was on an outpost North of Fairbanks, Alaska as a radar and computer repair technician. Maurice and Marilyn had enjoyed living in El Paso and returned to teach for the El Paso Independent School District in 1956. Maurice enjoyed teaching at El Paso High School for 13 years. During this time he earned a Masters Degree in School Administration from the University of Texas at El Paso and completed a summer session for transfer at Florida State University. The family moved to Texas A&M University where he earned a Doctor of Education Degree while teaching there on the part-time basis. He then joined the effort to establish the El Paso Community College and served the College as an Instructor, Department Head, Division Head and Curriculum Assistant to the Vice President. He attended summer courses at the Universidad Anahuac de Mexico City covering aspects of Mexico and US history and culture. He retired from his full-time position in 1991 and continued to work ten more years in the Curriculum area on a part-time basis. He developed and implemented the first articulation system between the College and area school districts. Maurice was a devoted educator for 45 years. He has received numerous professional awards and recognitions and is the author of several publications. One of the joys of retirement was seeing many of his past students. Maurice was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was active in scouting with his children as well as being active in school and community activities. He served as the Ingram family historian. He is a member of the First Presbyterian of El Paso. Maurice is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn of 59 years; his son Michael David Ingram and wife Claudia Ingram and their son Eric of Austin, Texas; his daughter Dr. Mary Jane Patterson and her husband Dr. Donald Patterson and their daughter Crystal of Austin, Texas; his half-sister Sharyl De Moss and her husband Robert De Moss of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Geraldine Jared, Dorothy Rankin, Marilyn Kiehl, and Ruth Neuhold, and his brothers Harold, Donald and James. Burial will be held at 2:30 pm, Friday, February 1, 2013 at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, Santa Teresa, NM. Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to First Presbyterian Church, Scholarship Fund at El Paso Community College, or charity of your choice. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
