Ricardo G. Almengor

El Paso - MSGT Ricardo G. Almengor, USAF Ret., passed away peacefully at age 50 on March 7, 2021, in Homestead, Florida. Ricardo was born at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, and traveled the world with his Air Force family in such places as Okinawa, Albuquerque, and Alamogordo, finally settling and graduating from Irvin High School, El Paso, Texas. After graduating high school he joined the United States Air Force and continued his world travels, serving his country in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller for over 23 years. During his Air Force career he earned many decorations and campaign medals, most notably are the National Defense Service Medal with 1 service star, Iraq Campaign Medal with 1 service star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Ribbon Short with 1 oak leaf cluster, AF Overseas Ribbon Long, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border, and the NATO Medal. Retiring from the Air Force in December 2014, he continued to serve his country as a contract Air Traffic Controller in Kabul, Afghanistan for all of 2015 and 2016. In January of 2017, continuing to serve his country, he became a government service employee (Air Traffic Controller) at Homestead Air Force Reserve Base, Homestead, Florida.

Ricardo was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend who had a love for music and played the saxophone, winning the Luis Armstrong Jazz Award in high school. He liked to play tennis, enjoyed a home cooked Mexican meal, and was always ready for an adventure. He had many friends and family members all of whom loved him very much. And last but not least he was a patriotic American and a dedicated veteran always ready to serve his country.

Ricardo is preceded in death by his parents, Rito and Carolina Almengor; and nephew Carlitos Almengor. He is survived by his wife Gabrielle Almengor, daughters Soraya and Mirreya; brother, Carlos Almengor (Irma); sisters Dolores Almengor and Teresa Adame (Jose); nieces Kimberly Maniscalco (James), Michelle Haynes (James), Heather Valenzuela (Andres), nephew Cory Van Brocklen-Gilmore (Kaytlyn), grandnephews Rito Valenzuela and Nathaniel & Nolen Van Brocklen-Gilmore, and grandnieces Noemi Van Brocklen-Gilmore, and Sofia, Norah, Mia & Natalie Maniscalco.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 3 pm to 9 pm with Vigil Service at 7 pm at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 11:30 am at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. Graveside Service will follow at 1 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors. Due to Covid-19 restrictions only 10 attendees are permitted at Fort Bliss. Services will be "Live streamed" on the Martin Funeral Home (West) Facebook page. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request that a donation be made to Go Fund Me Page at https://gofund.me/cbdcaf33; 100% of the funds raised will be used as a single donation to the America's VetDogs in order to sponsor a Service Dog for a Veteran. If we reach our goal, in Honor of Ricky, we will become a Puppy Sponsor which will give us the opportunity to give a puppy their name for life! Providing a puppy with its identity "Pretty Ricky" is a great way to honor Rick as a 23 year Veteran of the United States Air Force.

Ricardo nació en la Base de la Fuerza Aérea Scott, Illinois, y viajó por el mundo con su familia de la Fuerza Aérea en lugares como Okinawa, Albuquerque y Alamogordo, y finalmente se estableció y se graduó de Irvin High School, El Paso, Texas. En enero del 2017, mientras continuaba sirviendo a su país, se convirtió en empleado del servicio gubernamental (Controlador de Tráfico Aéreo) en Homestead Air Force Reserve Base, en Homestead, Florida. Ricardo era un amado esposo, padre, hijo, hermano, tío y amigo que amaba la música y tocaba el saxofón, ganando el premio Luis Armstrong Jazz Award en la escuela secundaria. Le gustaba jugar tenis, disfrutaba de una comida mexicana casera y siempre estaba listo para una aventura. Tenía muchos amigos y familiares, todos los cuales lo amaban mucho. Y por último, pero no menos importante, era un estadounidense patriota y un veterano dedicado siempre dispuesto a servir a su país. Ricardo es precedido en muerte por sus padres, Rito y Carolina Almengor; y su sobrino Carlitos Almengor. Le sobrevive su esposa Gabrielle Almengor, sus hijas: Soraya y Mireya; su hermano Carlos Almengor (Irma) y sus hermanas Dolores Almengor y Teresa Adame (José). También le quedan sus sobrinas: Kimberly Maniscalco (James), Michelle Haynes (James), Heather Valenzuela (Andres), su sobrino Cory Van Brocklen-Gilmore (Kaytlyn), sus sobrinos nietos: Rito Valenzuela y Nathaniel y Nolen Van Brocklen-Gilmore, y sus sobrinas nietas: Noemi Van Brocklen-Gilmore, y Sofia, Norah, Mia y Natalie Maniscalco. El velorio será el martes 23 de marzo del 2021 de 3:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. con el servicio de vigilia a las 7:00 p.m. en Martin Funeral Home West. La misa fúnebre será el miércoles 24 de marzo del 2021 a las 11:30 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica de San Antonio de Padua. El servicio de entierro proseguirá a la 1:00 p.m. en el cementerio nacional de Fort Bliss con todos los honores militares. Debido a las restricciones del Covid-19, solo se permiten 10 asistentes en Fort Bliss. Los servicios serán transmitidos en vivo en la página de Facebook de Martin Funeral Home (West). Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USAF-especially when you served in Iraq and later in Afghanistan after you retired. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
