THOMAS DIVELY Obituary

Thomas Sheldon Dively, age 51, went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2016. Tom was a kind and gentle-natured soul who always had a sparkle in his eyes and a smile on his face. He was all about family. He loved science fiction and thinking about the future. The first moonwalk was on his 5th birthday. Tom was a star ship captain - and his own first mate (Kirk and Spock on either end of his "ship"). A cowboy (though a Steelers fan - yellow and black is welcome at his service), he loved his beautiful wife, family and ranch, had his favorite hat, horses and dogs. A lover, a dreamer and a dancer, Western swing was his "thang." But he loved his rock music, too - Saturday night bonfires he cranked up Boston and Skynyrd. Tom was also a "fireman" - putting out fires, mostly other people's, none too big, too tough or too small. He always had time for everybody, always helped. It wasn't in him to say "no." Nobody was more generous. He was a "Peter Pan," forever little boy in all the best ways. He loved his computers, gadgets and "toys." Though he was big and strong (inside and out), he was a teddy bear, a "cookie monster" and his Mom's "yellow rose of Texas." He was our hero. We are so proud of the way he lived his life - a success in every way that matters. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Our sweet Tommy, if you're not in Heaven already, "second star to the right and straight on 'till morning." We'll see you there and miss you dearly 'till then. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, April Louise Simpson Dively; son, Ryan Thomas Dively; daughter, Stephanie Reanne Dively Porras, her husband, Isaac - their children - Reanne, Brandon and Zachary; parents, Sheldon Eugene and Judith Elaine Mattimore Dively, brother, Michael E. Dively and sisters Diana L. Rigsby, her husband John; and Donna M. Christopherson, her husband Joe; along with nieces, nephews, and other devoted family and friends. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Bethany Christian Church, 10453 Springwood Drive, El Paso Texas, followed by service immediately after. Tommy
My baby brother, how can I say good bye to you? It's not right. You left us far too soon.
I have faith that we will meet again on that beautiful shore - but how can I go from day to day and not see you until then?
I am so proud of how you lived your life, how much you made my life so many lives - better and how you carried the weight of the world without a complaint; just a smile and a shrug.
I can't watch the next Star Trek movie with you or hear you quote a line from some obscure episode of one of the series or sing about Texas, and armadillos and trains, cowboys, crazy arms, cold, cold hearts and El Paso City do you have any idea how much I will miss you? Do you have any idea how important, how special, how incredibly comforting your gentle spirit was? Or how much you made me laugh and made me feel better whenever I would tell you my troubles? Why didn't you tell me more of yours?
But that was not you -
I see you now, in that hat, smiling (that beautiful, sweet smile) and turning to go in Mom's kitchen but I did not ever think it would be the last time -
No, I cannot say good bye to you, so I will only say, God Speed, Tommy - save a seat for me.
You must be resting with our Heavenly Father because I cannot believe he has not seen your true and gentle heart and all the love and help you gave to all you loved and some you barely knew.
What better can you hope for in a life that all you knew were better for having known you.
Your life was much too short, but you were a success in every way that counts.
Love you forever,
Donna

Tom clearly inherited his gentle spirit from both his parents, Judy and Sheldon, the mischievous twinkle in his eyes from his mother, and his devilish manly good looks from his father. He loved his family so much, and I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. His love for animals was always touching, and for the world to lose a man with such compassion is such a tragedy that I cannot express the sadness I feel. The love the entire family has for each other has always been an inspiration and source of hope for humanity for me...I am beyond words for the sadness I feel for the amazing Dively family.
God Bless you all, I am praying for your hearts to heal someday. Sunny Aris

How can I say how much I miss Tom, our Tombo, my teddy bear baby brother, when I still cannot believe he's gone? He was one of the kindest, most imaginative, intelligent, fun-loving people I ever met, always smiling; a perfect combination of both our parents. My life is so much better for having known him. I know he will always be with me.

April, Ryan ,Stephanie words cannot express the sadness and heartache that I feel for you. The only comfort I can provide is the confidence that Jesus provides as he puts his arm over your shoulder during this difficult time. Michael, my brother, I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a brother. Be comforted in knowing that you shall reunite again. Dianna and Donna as sister's you have always been the rock brothers look to when us boy's need support and advice. Take solace in knowing that you have played an important role in our lives when we needed you. Mr and Mrs Dively all I can say is I am so sorry I cannot personally be there for you during this time. You have always been the ones I have looked to since my parents passed. Thank you for being that beacon I have long needed. May we all find peace in our life.

I knew Tom best when he was a kid up to about the age of 14 or so, since then I have always asked about him thru my lifelong best friends Judy and Sheldon. I have stopped in to see him several times over the years as I moved my family to Michigan in 1984. He was always very pleasant to stop in and visit with and I will always consider him my friend and my family. My heart and prayers go out to all his family and to those who loved him. I will always remember him just as he looks in his pictures above, a pleasant and smiling friend. Dave & Deb Pease

Tommy, what can I say about the best brother anyone could ever ask for? You're still my role model, keeping me focused on what is really important in life. I can't remember a time together that wasn't fun from growing up, to working together, college, then getting together many times a year to share news, music and the latest in tech, maybe some pool. I miss my best friend so much already with your easy, gentle way. I know our dear sweet Lord will take precious care of you until we see you again.
