VICTOR CHAVEZ Obituary

Victor P. Chavez Victor passed away Sunday July 31, 2011 peacefully in his sleep. Life began for Victor on January 21st, 1928 on a farm near La Union, New Mexico. It was the start of his lifelong passion for his family and his farm; a place that became his retreat for peace and relaxation. Victor was a gregarious man with a hearty laugh, one heck of a sense of humor and a love for all outdoor activities-He loved to fish, he loved to hunt, he loved to travel and see the world. Always ready to entertain, it was common knowledge amongst his friends that you could always stop by the farm where he'd greet you with a cold beer and if you stuck around long enough … a really good steak from the grill. Victor married Guillermina "Wilma" Chavez in 1953 after leaving the army and settled into raising a family on their beloved farm. Together, Wilma and Victor raised two children, Victor James and Patricia Ann. He was a devoted family man always looking out for those he loved. In his 83 years he worked as farmer, a federal correctional officer at the La Tuna Penitentiary, and a realtor. He and Wilma loved to travel; in their younger years they explored national parks and forests while camping… that is until it was time to get a camping trailer-the sleeping bags were out! They visited Washington, New York, Atlanta, all of the western United States, Hawaii, Alaska, a great part of Mexico, cruised through the Caribbean, the ports of South America, and explored much of Europe. Victor and Wilma's grandchildren became the center of their lives. Grandpa loved to watch his girls, Erica and Alexis, growing up. He beamed with pride and had a ready laugh and smile while they danced and sang or played the piano. Grandpa, you were our foundation and guide as you took care of us, always giving your unconditional love and support. You will be greatly missed. Victor is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, of 57 years. He is survived by son Victor J. Chavez, daughter Patricia Dominguez and husband Al Dominguez, grandchildren Erica and Alexis Dominguez. Visitation will be Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home – Doniphan Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, Santa Teresa, NM. Services under the direction of HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME. 5054 Doniphan Dr. 587-0202

Estimados Familiares

Att. Raquel
