DAVID SMITH Obituary

DAVID SMITH, JR. David Lee Smith, Jr., age 55 of Anderson and formerly of Elwood, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Envive Healthcare in Anderson following extensive health complications. He was born Aug. 4, 1968 in Elwood, the son of David Lee Smith, Sr. and Penny L. (Kahn) Smith. He attended Elwood High School. David worked as a gas station clerk and attendant for many years. He especially enjoyed fishing and regular breakfasts at his Grandma Smith's house on Saturday mornings. David was an avid sports fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings football teams. As a youth, he was active in the Elwood Babe Ruth baseball program. More than anything, David truly enjoyed spending time with his family, and he will be greatly missed. David's family includes his father and step-mother, David and Debbie Smith, Sr. of Elwood; two brothers, Nick (wife Tina) Smith of Elwood and Brian Smith (Margaret Wilkinson) of Decatur, Michigan; uncle, Bill (wife Mary) Kahn of Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his mother, Penny Lynn Smith; grandparents, Carl and Jenny Smith and George and Juanita "Jo" Kahn; and aunt, Pam Rice. Private services and burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Elwood. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. I first met David when living on South J Street we were in the 2nd grade I remember crying when he and his family moved to Shelbyville. My biggest memory was when he and I watched the television movie Helter Skelter and both of us being really scared. We had spoken recently on Facebook and he had said that he was in poor health. I'm am so sorry for your loss. David was a good guy and one of my first friends as a child.

Sincerely,

Frank Arehart
