JIMMIE WAYMIRE Obituary

JIMMIE WAYMIRE Jimmie Eugene "Jim" Waymire, 86, of Anderson passed at his home after he fought a courageous battle with cancer on February 4, 2024. He was born on February 6, 1937, in Anderson to the late Gerald and Marie (Lawler) Waymire. He was in the first graduating class at College Corner School in 1951. He graduated from Anderson High School in the class of 1955 and had perfect attendance throughout all 12 years. He studied general agriculture at Purdue University. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He was a hardworking, lifetime farmer raising livestock and row crops in Richland Township. He drove a school bus for Anderson Community Schools until 2019 when he retired after 39 years. He was a member and deacon at Bethany Christian Church where he had perfect attendance for 14 years. He played on the softball and basketball teams at the church. He was a Madison County 4-H leader. He volunteered at the Anderson YMCA as a basketball coach. He was an accomplished steel guitarist and received many awards. He had a band that played for many events and was featured on Muncie TV with Faron Young. He was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Reds, and Purdue University Basketball. He attended many games at Mackey Arena with his family. He was a kind, loving, hardworking, family man who loved and devoted his time supporting his children, grandchildren, and his extended family. He is survived by his two children, Sherry (Mark) Simmons of Tipton, IN and Mike (Deborah) Waymire of Anderson; a brother, Skip (Judy) Waymire of Bradenton, FL; four grandchildren, Jenna (Isaac) Blue of LaPorte, Brooke (Curt) Presnall of Fairmount, Adam Waymire of Deltona, FL and Abby Waymire of Elkhart; one great-grandchild, CJ Blue; sister-in-law, Frances Waymire of Alexandria; special cousin, Mary Lou Curts of Muncie; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara S. Waymire in 2004; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin and Evelyn Boxell; and a brother, Ted Waymire. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Chris Bell officiating. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am-2:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethany Christian Church or Alzheimer's Association.
