William Lynott Obituary

William J. Lynott, 76
"Will" passed away suddenly on November 9, 2024. We take comfort in knowing he wasn't alone. His dear partner, Colleen Van Heel was present. They had been together for 13 years and loved and relied on each other.
He was born in Biwabik on May 14, 1948, the eldest of eight children, to Mary Kathleen (Lindbeck) and William James Lynott, Jr. "Our brother Bill" was how we distinguished him from the other Bill's in the family. Tall, handsome and intelligent, he was a voracious reader and music lover. He formed several pop and folk bands and taught guitar to students. He attended Marquette School, Virginia, Holy Rosary School, Duluth, Cathedral High School and UMD. He was drafted into the Army and later was promoted to perform research at Walter Reed Hospital. After his discharge, he attended Idaho State University in Pocatello. He earned his masters in Biology. He also lived in Mandan, ND before settling in Stillwater, MN
His career interest was nature and conservation. During his long career he worked for ND Game and Fish, MN DNR and the PCA.
He once loved to hunt with his Irish setters, Vixen and Valkyrie. He was an avid Civil War historian. He also coached youth hockey in ND and MN.
He is survived by partner, Colleen, children Megan and Theron, beloved Llewellin setter, Molly, and six siblings.
He is predeceased by his parents and brother Tim. His heart and home was at the cabin he built on White Iron Lake. At his request, there will be no service. However, his siblings will gather to release his ashes on his beautifully wooded lot.
