Nancy Joy Lynott passed away peacefully at home early Sunday morning attended by her beloved niece, Marie Lynott, who stayed constantly by her side during her last few weeks on earth. Nancy will be greatly missed by her relatives as well as her dear friends who thought of Nancy as "family."

Nancy was born in Scranton, a daughter of the late William and Clare Lynott, and a member of St. Paul Parish.

She is survived by her brother, William "Bill" Lynott, and his wife, Maria, of Carlsbad, Calif.; her niece, Marie Lynott, of Guilford, Conn.; her nephew, Matthew Lynott, his wife, Julia and grand-nephew, Xander of Talmadge, Calif.; her grand-niece, Lexi and her mother, Chelsea Lynott.

She was predeceased in death by her nephew, William "Billy" Lynott.

Nancy graduated from Central High School in Scranton before attending Marywood College where she earned a degree in elementary education. After graduating from Marywood, Nancy moved to Philadelphia, where she lived in Society Hill and started teaching second grade in Gloucester City, N.J., a position she would hold for 20 years. Nancy retired from teaching early in order to return to Scranton to take care of her dear mother, Clare.

In addition to allowing her to care for her mother, Nancy's move back to Scranton allowed her to rekindle many close friendships, including friendships she had cultivated from her grade school and high school days. Those friendships that she had made so early in life endured throughout the years and led to close bonds with her friends' children and their offspring as well.

Nancy loved to regale her Scranton friends with stories of her niece and nephews. Nancy's annual trips to California for the Christmas holiday to visit her family, where she enjoyed long walks on the beach, were the highlight of her year. When Nancy was not spending time with her family, she loved being with her close "Scranton friends," and going out to dinner, with weekly visits to Stirna's being one of her favorites. Nancy lived in the Green Ridge section of Scranton and later, Dunmore, where she enjoyed daily walks throughout the neighborhood as well as her occasional trips to Nay Aug Park. Nancy had a penchant for dogs, and while she was never able to have one of her own, she tremendously enjoyed walking and taking care of her niece's and friends' pets. Nancy was known for her gregarious personality, her infectious laugh, and her undying generosity. Nancy's family and friends will miss her every day.
