Cleavo Luelf

1928 - 2021

Cleavo Luelf, 92, Washington, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021, with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Warren County to Suzanna, nee^Preul, and Karl Luelf. A graduate of Central Methodist College in Fayetteville, he spent two years in the Army serving in a number of roles at the Pentagon. After his service to his country, he returned to Missouri where he met Dorothy Riechers. Cleavo and Dorothy married on May 1, 1955, and were soon blessed with three sons.

If you knew Cleavo, you know he was a car guy. On weekends and evenings, he liked to spend time with his extended family at the Riechers Gas Station at South Point and tinkering in his own garage with what seemed like a regular rotation of automobiles. He had a special fondness for El Caminos and Cadillacs.

He spent most of his working career land surveying for Cochran Engineering, working on projects including the new Highway 100, Washington Airport, Lake St. Louis Water District, Jefferson County Water District and other projects. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching sports and his grandchildren's games.

Cleavo is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and sons, Mark and wife Christine Luelf, Huntsville, Alabama, Dave and wife Cindy Luelf, Washington, and Bill and wife Bethany Luelf, Northern Virginia. Along with his wife and sons, he is survived by grandchildren, Joel and wife Lindsay Luelf, Courtney and husband Dan Morris, Tim Luelf, Jamie and husband Paul Hearst, Jeremy and wife Olivia Luelf and Will Luelf, and great-grandchildren, Lane, Claire, Reese, Hudson and Hayes Luelf, Gabriella and Amelia Morris and Addison, Marcus and Everett Hearst.

Services were held Monday, July 19, at the Lutheran Cemetery Chapel. Visitation was at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.

Burial took place following the service.

Arrangements were in care of Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.
