Constantine Canelos Obituary

Constantine "Gus" Canelos, 96, Truxton, passed away at his residence Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

He was born March 16, 1917, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Vassilios Canelos and wife Christina. Gus led an interesting life. He served in the U.S. Army as an antitank gunner and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Gus was married to Anne Martinek in 1939 and to this union were born six children, William "Bill," James, Harold, Elaine, Mary and Christine. While the children were young, the family lived in Chicago, Ill. Gus was a lithographer and owned Direct Litho Service, Chicago, Ill., for over 30 years. He served his customers well. Gus loved music, gardening and served as a volunteer for many years with Warren City Ambulance District. He was very adventuresome and at the age of 70 learned how to fly and also worked at Hidden Valley with the ski patrol until he was in his 80s. Gus was a member of Warrenton Elks and Hawk Point VFW. He was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church, Hawk Point, for many years. Gus was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be sadly missed and long remembered.

Gus is survived by his loving children, William "Bill" Canelos and wife Sharron, and Harold Canelos, all of Truxton, Elaine Browning and husband James, St. Peters, Mary Martens and husband Peter, Urbana, Ill., and Christine Welsh and husband Michael, Palatine, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Susan Canelos, Truxton; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Canelos; one son, James Canelos; one brother, Vasilios Kanellopoulos; and one sister, Dr. Helen Stratos.

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCoy-Blossom Funeral & Cremation Center, 493 Main St., Hawk Point.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hawk Point.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund, in care of McCoy-Blossom Funeral & Cremation Center, 1304 Boone St., Troy, MO 63379 are preferred,
