Dennis Gardner Obituary
Dennis was born Jan. 25, 1946, in Washington, to Lester Gardner and wife Gurthlen, nee Meyer. He graduated from Washington High School in 1964 and then attended Southeast Missouri State University. He earned a bachelor's of science in education, a bachelor's of science in art, and a bachelor's of science in nursing.
Dennis spent two years in the U.S. Army National Guard. For seven years, he worked as a free-lance artist, working with metal sculptures and stained glass. He then pursued a degree in nursing and worked for 30 years in various nursing capacities. His favorite job, which he considered a privilege and a gift from God, was that of being a dad.
He is survived by his wife Karen; daughter, Jessica; brother, Lester II and wife Barb; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at Crain Funeral Home, Cape Girardeau, with Dr. Richard Martin speaking. Friends gathered one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Peter's cemetery, Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior at the cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Cedarville University (251 N. Main Street, Cedarville, OH 45314).
Arrangements have been entrusted to Crain Funeral Home and Cremation service, Cape Girardeau.

We are sorry of Dennis's passing, I considered him a close friend and neighbor. Denny, I and fellow friends spent a lot of time together around Busch Creek and surrounding areas. One of my best memories was when he and other friends would sled down Asel's (sp) Hill on South Stafford as well as the VFW Hill. We will miss you, Dennis...save a hill for me in heaven.
