Douglas Godefroid Obituary

Douglas Godefroid, 67, formerly of Washington, St. Clair and Moselle, Missouri, passed away at his home in Perdido Key, Florida, Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Doug is survived by wife, Patricia "Patty" Anderson Isbell-Godefroid, Perdido Key, Forida; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jennie (nee Alberternst) Godefroid and his grandchildren Zoe and Madison Godefroid, all of St. Louis; brother and sister-in-law Steve and Tammy (nee Schmidt) Godefroid, St. Clair; sister-in-law Kathy (nee Morrison) Godefroid, Mechanicsburg, Illinois; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty (nee Ennis) Godefroid; brother, Chris Godefroid; and sister Diane Gullet.

Doug was born in Washington, Aug. 9, 1957. He graduated St. Clair High School in 1975, shortly afterwards joining the Navy and having his only son with then wife Gina (nee Redhage) Burns. While in the Navy, he traveled around the country and across the globe, experiencing places as Japan, Washington, DC, Nebraska, Hawaii, Alaska and Maryland, until he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1994. After retiring, Doug moved back to St. Clair and opened the Highway K convenience store before moving to Washington, Missouri, where he opened Steamers night club in the vacant, gravel-floored former Tibbe Power building. His vision for Steamers was a spark that lead to further development along the Washington riverfront.

After a few years, Doug moved to Perdido Key, Florida, where he started a second career working as a civil servant at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, from which he retired after two decades. Shortly afterward, he found his soulmate and married Patty on Sept. 18, 2020. She and his son were at his bedside as he peacefully lost his battle with cancer.

Doug loved to cook, golf, and watch Alabama football and Cardinals baseball. He impacted many lives, and he will be greatly missed.

A remembrance gathering will be held at a later date.

Worked with Doug as a civil servant. Upon my retirement, he led me in the direction to make it simplified. May the good Lord wrap his arms around him. RIP Doug!
