James Schulte Obituary

James William Schulte, 75, Hermann, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Frene Valley of Hermann Stonebridge.

James, son of the late Harry Schulte and wife Louise, nee Bruening, was born Sept. 15, 1943, in Washington. He was later adopted and raised by Elmer and Amanda, nee Henskan, Kropp, who also preceded him in death.

He was the husband of Gladys, nee Poeschel, Schulte. They were united in marriage March 17, 1962, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hermann. Gladys survives at their home.

James also is survived by his daughter, Lisa Epple and husband Brian, Washington; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Schulte, Hermann; two brothers, Donald Schulte, Hermann, and Carroll Gene Schulte and wife Betty, Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Georgia Ann Rohlfing and husband Lloyd, New Haven; two grandsons, Travis Schulte and wife Jennifer, and Brett Schulte and wife Katelyn, all of Hermann; and three great-grandchildren, Nolan, Maggie and Walter Schulte.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Schulte; his parents; his adopted parents; and a sister, Shirley Speckhals.

James was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hermann. He became a member of the Hermann Volunteer Fire Department in 1967, where he served as fire chief for five years. He also was a member of the Hermann Eagles. James worked for Petrolane, which later became AmeriGas, for 40 years, driving a propane truck. He took pride in his job, always worked hard, and did his best.

James was a kind and fun-loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed being outside and spending time with family and friends. He took pride in taking care of his lawn and house, always making it look perfect and well-maintained. He also liked taking care of his "little blue" truck.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 29, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Rodger Kiepe officiating.

Burial was at Hermann Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer, Hermann Fire Department, or St. Paul U.C.C., in care of Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home.
