Kevin Gibson Obituary

Kevin Gibson, 57, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022.

Son of the late Edward Gibson and wife Ida McHarg, Kevin was born March 20, 1965, in Henderson, Kentucky. He was united in marriage to Christy Miller on June 11,1994.

He graduated from Union High School, East Central College and William Jewel College. God's path took him to Southern Theological Seminary (master's degree in church music) and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry).

Kevin's passion and excellence were evident in music and worship. He was a gifted and creative worship pastor. He valued all people and ministered to them in various settings: as a paraprofessional with special education students or as a staff member involved with prison ministries. Kevin was witty with a great sense of humor. He related well with people of all ages and had a knack for bringing people together through music, pickleball and social gatherings. Kevin always had great choir celebrations and Kentucky Derby parties. He loved barbecue and popcorn, cycling and hiking, and enjoying St. Louis and Kansas City Christmas lights each year. His favorite sports teams were the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues and Mizzou. He had a true zest for life.

Kevin was a talented musician and music leader. In high school, he was in the marching band, and at East Central College he participated in choral and music programs. Within church settings, Kevin directed worship music, choirs and praise bands. Throughout his career, Kevin was on the staff of churches in Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska. He was on the board of trustees for the Word & Way, a Baptist publication. He was a co-founder of Restoration Arts in Kansas City. Music and his faith were hallmarks of his life.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Christy; brother, Glenn (Theresa); niece, Amanda Sullentrup; great-niece, Avery Sullentrup; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Miller (Tracy); and nephews, Gabriel Miller and Dylan Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Edward and Ida Gibson; brother, Gregory Gibson; and infant twin brother and sister, Mark and Melody.
