Lewis H. Strothkamp

1940 - 2022

Lewis "Lew" Henry Strothkamp, 81, Union, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022.

Lew was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Manchester, the son of Louis Strothkamp and wife Evelyn, nee Weidman. He received his education from Coyle High School in Kirkwood. Lew was united in marriage to Judith Eschenbrenner on Sept. 24, 1965, at St. Joseph Church in Manchester, and two children blessed their union. The family made their home in Glencoe, and Lew moved to Union in 2006 after Judy's passing in 1999.

He was employed as a machinist at McDonnell Douglas, before retiring in 1996. Lew was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Union. He enjoyed trapshooting, deer hunting and golf. The time Lew cherished most was time spent with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by one son, Jeff Strothkamp and wife Leslie, Union; one daughter, Julie Stroup and husband Steve, Dublin, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michael (Jordan) Stroup, Brandon Stroup, Justin Stroup and Nicholas Heibel; one great-grandchild, Henry Stroup; one sister, Carolyn "Babe" Krieg and husband Glenn, Lafayette, Louisiana; one sister-in-law, Diana Eschenbrenner, New Melle; four nephews, Louis (Tonya) Kerchoff, Scott Eschenbrenner, Todd Eschenbrenner and Jon Eschenbrenner; and many other relatives and friends.

Lew was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Strothkamp; his parents, Louis and Evelyn Strothkamp; and two brothers-in-law, Harold Eschenbrenner and Ronald Kerchoff.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 9, from 4-7 p.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.

A funeral Mass was held Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Union, with the Rev. Joe Post officiating.

A private burial will be held at a later date at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Glencoe.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immaculate Conception Church.

The Strothkamp family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
