Mary Alfermann Obituary

Mary Alice Alfermann, nee Ruether, 80, Washington, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Cedarcrest Manor, Washington.

Mary Alice, daughter of the late Hugo Ruether and wife Elfrieda, nee Volkerding, was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Dutzow. She was united in marriage to Francis "Sonny" Alfermann May 24, 1958, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington. Mary Alice was a devoted parishioner of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, member of the Ladies Sodality and the church craft group. She was a prior leader for the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and 4-H, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Cedarcrest Manor for their wonderful and gentle care that Mary Alice had during the last 22 months there.

Mary Alice is survived by her husband, Francis "Sonny" Alfermann, Washington; four children, Shelly Meyer and husband Jerry, Chad Alfermann and wife Nickie, all of Washington, Trisha Alfermann, Chicago, Ill., and Staci Harris and husband Robert, Annandale, Va.; three siblings, Steven Ruether and wife Gail, Dan Ruether, and Les Ruether and wife Ann, all of Washington; four grandchildren, Melissa Heitmann and husband Jason, Washington, Jeremy Meyer and wife Kristin, Salem, Ore., Cory Alfermann, Washington, and Jessica Bieker and husband Nathan, Union; five great-grandchildren, Nathan Heitmann, Joe Heitmann, Rylee Bieker, Izyc Bieker and Mavryc Bieker; six siblings-in-law, Audrey Ruether, Washington, Annette Ruether, Union, Jen Garbs and husband Gus, Dennis Alfermann and wife Barb, Rich Alfermann and wife Barb, all of Washington, and Kathy Eikermann and husband Don, Texas state; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one son, Rick Alfermann; her parents, Hugo and Elfrieda Ruether; six siblings, Carl Ruether, Hook Ruether and wife Jane, Jim Ruether, Ron Ruether, Rich Ruether and Cheryl Ruether; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Miller and husband Roy, and Ruth Ann Schriewer and husband Wayne.

Friends and family were invited to pray the rosary Sunday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, Washington. Visitation followed until 7 p.m.

A memorial Mass was held Monday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at future date.

Memorial donations are appreciated to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or Grade School.

The Alfermann family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
