Nora Huff Obituary

Nora Marie Huff, known to most as Marie, nee Smith, 87, St. Clair, formerly of Lonedell, departed this life Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in St. Clair.

Marie, daughter of the late Roy Edwin Smith Sr. and wife Mary Catherine, nee Bass, was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Canaan. She was united in marriage to William Jacob Huff, known to all as Bill, Feb. 25, 1945, and four children came to bless this union.

Marie was a Christian of the Southern Baptist faith. As a young woman, she attended Prospect Baptist Church, Lonedell. She made caring for her home and family her career in life, but when Bill decided to go into business for himself, she was there for him. For 12 years she was the bookkeeper and co-owner of Bill Huff Well Drilling, Inc. During her younger years, she spent time gardening and was a great cook. She was a talented seamstress, and the girls always had new dresses that she made when school started. She did a lot of crochet work and made christening outfits for the grandchildren. Marie remained an avid reader throughout her life and never lost her love of music. Nothing made her happier than the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Marie is survived by three children, Jacqueline Belker, Denver, Colo., Roberta Montes and husband Juan, Pueblo, Colo., and David Huff and wife Michele, High Ridge; one brother, Roy E. Smith Jr. and wife Patricia, Lonedell; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other, relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Huff; one daughter, Shirley Williams Betterton; one granddaughter, Wendy Whitsell; parents, Roy Sr. and Mary Smith; one brother, Raymond Smith; and two sisters, Annabelle Schrock and Helen Kerns.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. John Pursley officiating.

Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair.

Memorials may be given to Mercy Hospice, Washington.
