Paul Philipp Obituary
Paul Frederick Philipp, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 25 days.
He was born Oct. 30, 1930, at St. Francis Hospital in Washington, to Anthony P. and Maybelle L. (Mohesky) Philipp. Paul was united in marriage to Eva Bernice (Welch) on Feb. 2, 1952, at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington, and into this union, five children were born.
Paul served in the Korean Conflict in the Korean, Japan Theater of Operations from May 29, 1952 to April 22, 1954. He was a sergeant with the HQ Battery 1st Cavalry Division Artillery. While stationed in Korea, he held the position of sergeant in charge of a motor pool in Korea. When released from active duty, he received the following Military Medals: National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Paul was an active business leader and employer in Washington for several decades. Throughout the '70's, Philipp Transit Lines was a major employer in the Washington community under Paul's leadership. He collaborated with other business leaders in bringing many industrial and manufacturing businesses to the area. He served the community as a member on many civic organizations, including the Washington Chamber of Commerce, Washington Town & Country Fair Board, serving as president for one year, member of the local Elks, V.F.W. and Knights of Columbus. He served on the national and state governing boards of the American Trucking Association. He was deeply fond of Washington and loved coming back to see its growth over the past years.
Paul was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis Borgia Parish and then Christ Prince of Peace Parish in Ballwin. He was awarded the fourth-degree knight from the Knights of Columbus. He loved his Catholic faith and was devoted to daily prayer, especially the Divine Mercy chaplet. He loved his family and was very proud of them. He had a special love and fondness for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Among his survivors are his children, Lanette Mishler-Kohler and husband Dennis, Union, Dale Philipp and wife Cindy, Washington, Timothy Philipp and wife Diane, St. Charles, Evette Angeles, O'Fallon, and Katina Heggemann and husband Joseph, Marthasville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Dick Gordon and wife Kathy, Salem; a sister-in-law, Louise Welch, Marshfield; brother-in-law, Leroy Schroeder, Washington; brother, Francis Philipp, Kansas City; and many family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Bernice Philipp; parents, Anthony P. and Maybelle L. Philipp; and sister, Yvonne (Philipp) Schroeder.
Private services were held.
