Roland Dobsch Obituary

Roland August "Rollie" Dobsch, 90, Washington, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021.

Rollie, son of the late Ernest Dobsch and wife Emily, nee Kuenzel, was born April 7, 1931, in Washington. Rollie received his education at St. John's-Gildehaus Grade School and St. Francis Borgia High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Marquart July 16, 1955, at St. Gertrude Church in Krakow. The couple made their home in Washington, where they were blessed with five sons.

Rollie worked for Eckelkamp Electric as a mechanic until his retirement in 1992. He was a longtime member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Rollie also was an active member of several organizations, including V.F.W. Post 2661 in Washington, Knights of Columbus Seisl Council 1121 in Washington and Monsignor Hildner Assembly 574, fourth degree. Rollie enjoyed tinkering and fixing a variety of things. He also loved watching Cardinals baseball, riding tractors and barbecuing every weekend with his kids while they were growing up. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, and he will be greatly missed.

Rollie is survived by four sons, Mark Dobsch and wife Becky, Dave Dobsch and wife Toni, Kevin Dobsch and wife Michelle and Terry Dobsch and wife Kim; one daughter-in-law, Rita Dobsch and husband Tom Mueller; 12 grandchildren, Jeff and Shannon Dobsch, Andy and Sarah Dobsch, Brian and Nicole Dobsch, Samantha Dobsch, Kaitlyn and Eric Kessler, Gretchen and Brett Kelley, Adam and Lindsay Dobsch, Hannah Dobsch, Aaron Dobsch, Lindsay Dobsch, Matthew Dobsch and Christopher Dobsch; 14 great-grandchildren, Logan Dobsch, Morganne Dobsch, Kaleb Dobsch, Brayden Dobsch, Zachary Dobsch, Mikayla Dobsch, Ethan Dobsch, Kallie Kessler, Liam Kessler, Jack Kelley, Clay Kelley, Quinn Kelley, McKinley Dobsch and Rowan Dobsch; in-laws, Dolores Dobsch, Perryville, Jean Marquart and Mary Rose Marquart, both of Union, Carol and Wayne Kluba, Chicago, Illinois, Bill and Karen Marquart, Dutzow, and Melinda and Henry Dorn, Wildwood; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Dobsch; one son, Gary Dobsch; one great-grandson, Luke Dobsch; his parents, Ernest and Emily Dobsch; one brother, Roman Dobsch; one sister, Roberta Dobsch; and in-laws, Glen Marquart, Vern and Katie Marquart, Bob Marquart and Keith Marquart.

Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 9, from 4-8 p.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington, with a parish rosary at 3:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass was held Friday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Krakow.

Burial, with full military honors, followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Gertrude School or St. Gertrude Church.

The Dobsch family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington.
