Teresa Scott Obituary

Teresa Lynne Scott, nee Woolf, 59, Warrenton, passed away peacefully Friday, April 13, 2018.

Teresa was born Feb. 22, 1959, in St. Louis, to Clifton Woolf and wife Elaine, nee Groeper. She and Gary Scott were married Aug. 18, 1979. They began their adventure of almost four decades in Warrenton, working and growing a business, raising a family and traveling the world. Together they became an integral part of the community.

Teresa retired from the Warren County R-III School District in 2006 after 25 years as a special education teacher. She had served as office manager of Schraer Heating and Cooling since she and Gary began the business, along with her brother, Bill, in 1993. In addition, Teresa was the manager of the Warrenton pool for 20 years. Involved in many community endeavors, she was a leader in several organizations and influential in local development. Most recently, Teresa was the president of the Warren County R-III School Board, on which she served for nine years. Her past involvement included coaching little league basketball and serving as Cub Scout leader. Teresa taught Sunday school at St. John's Lutheran Church, Warrenton, and was a trustee at the church until her term expired in December 2017.

Teresa also was a past member of the Warrenton Board of Aldermen and Planning and Zoning Commission. Additionally, she was a member of the Warren County Historical Society and Warrenton Downtown Association. Teresa was named both Warrenton Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year and Woman of the Year in 2012.

An avid runner and adventurist, Teresa was instrumental in the creation of the Run for the Warriors 5K fundraiser and a promoter of all local races. She could be found trodding the pavement of Warren County roads by dawn most mornings, as Teresa was very committed to fitness.

She thoroughly enjoyed traveling, taking new risks and exploring national parks. Teresa had crossed the Grand Canyon on foot four different times and hiked through the Narrows riverbed in Zion National Park last September. She was already planning her next adventure off the beaten path, hoping to complete the 18-mile Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire this fall.

A gentle, caring and selfless soul, Teresa enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her fearless leadership, adventurous spirit and eagerness to live life to the fullest. Always optimistic, no matter the circumstance, Teresa declared every day as "wonderful."

She is survived by her devoted and caring husband, Gary; parents, Clifton and Elaine Woolf; one sister, Lisa Mischlispy and husband John; one brother, Bill Woolf and wife Michelle; two sons, Joshua Scott and wife Angie, and Tim Scott and wife Vanessa; three grandchildren, Ava Campbell, Alyse Scott and Elijah Scott; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was scheduled to be held Wednesday, April 18, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, Warrenton.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Warrenton.

Interment will follow in Warrenton City Cemetery.

A run from St John's Lutheran Church to Warrenton City Cemetery will take place immediately after the service to lead the funeral procession to the cemetery. For anyone interested in participating, please come to the church in your running gear. It's approximately a 2-mile run.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations of blood to The American Red Cross. Memorial donations also may be made to The Big Red Boosters or The Wise Foundation, in care of Martin Funeral Home, 510 E. Main St., Warrenton, MO 63383.

I remember her from the bus, from school and from just around town always a friendly happy lady. We did not know each other on a personal level, but it was strange that when we did see each other ,we said hello, smiled, and sometime even chatted about the weather or the event we were at. She was the stranger ,yet friend I will miss running into here and there, now and again. So sorry to the family for your loss. Prayer of comfort.
