Wilbert Schultz Obituary

Wilbert J. Schultz, 86, Washington, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018. He went to be with Mary Ann on her birthday.

He was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Labadie, to the late John R. Schultz and wife Adele, nee Kissing. Wilbert was known to most people as Whip. Whip was united in marriage to his loving wife, Mary Ann White Aug. 27, 1955, at St. Ann's Presbyterian Church, St. Ann. They made their home in rural Washington, and were blessed with five children of this marriage.

Whip left school early to help his family on the farm. He was taught at a young age to be a good worker. He also developed a love for tractors. Whip was a man of faith and always willing to lend a helping hand. He set an example for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Washington and served in many

capacities: as an elder of the church; served many years on the Property Committee; served on the Cemetery Board and other various capacities. He was always willing to help with anything for his church. His last 20 years of working were for McClain Quarry in Danville. He retired in 1997. All through his working life, Whip called himself a diversified farmer, and loved farming. After his retirement, he maintained the lawn at the Presbyterian Church of Washington for 15 years.

Whip is survived by his five daughters, Becky Vogt and husband Allen, Washington, Sharon Fredrick and husband Larry, Morrison, Gail Riegel and husband Rich, Joyce Hischier and husband Mark, all of Washington, and Nancy Brueggemann and husband Danny, New Haven; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Schultz; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Christine Rees; his parents; and four sisters, Arleine Kehr and husband Ludwig "Chris," Mabel Barrett and husband Louis, Virginia Scott and husband Bill, and Della Mae Probst and husband Frank.

Visitation was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 28, at the Presbyterian Church of Washington, Washington, from 4 to 8 p.m.

A celebration of life for Whip will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Washington, with the Rev. Patrick Gruber officiating.

Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Whip and Mary Ann were some of my very favorite people from Washington. Their memories will always hold a special spot in my heart. My late husband, Phil Couch, thought Whip was one of the greatest! He loved sharing tractor and farming talks with him. My sympathy and thoughts to your family.
