Rich added so much variety and insight to my life through his friendship, mentoring, and teaching. I met him when I was becoming a young man, and he helped me navigate the mysteries of life in a time when I needed guidance badly. Rich frequently donated his time and energy to causes that meant something to him, and I count myself as one of those causes, and I'm very grateful.

I will always fondly recall the memories we shared together as we started a non-profit organization, sang karaoke at Charlotte's Web (loudly!), nearly sank a canoe on the way through the mangrove tunnels near his home, and when he gave me firm advice about personal challenges.

Dr. Richard Zimmerman was a man of great taste and insight, and he will be missed by his friends and family mightily. May he be forever remembered as a fierce fighter for justice, equality, kindness, and learning.

Richard was a good cousin and a good man. Although he and I did not have a lot of contact in recent years, I have many fond memories of Rich and will miss him.
