Carmela Tramantano Obituary

Carmela Maria Tiranno Tramantano, 93, of North East, Pa., passed away on July 31, 2016, into everlasting life, to be with the Lord and our Savior and those loving family members who had preceded her in death. She had been at St. Mary's East since April 6, 2016.

Carmela was born on January 5, 1923, in Canicatti, Sicily, the daughter of Salvatore and Calogera Tiranno.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mickele Antonio Tramantano, who passed on September 8, 1989, (whom she married December 30, 1957) in Canicatti and siblings, Vincenzo, Mariangelica and Angelina.

Carmela came to America in 1958.

Carmela was a humble, loving, kind and generous person whose life blessed all who crossed her path.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Linda (Timothy) Williams of North East, Pa. and Josephine C. Tramantana of Erie, Pa., her granddaughter, Amanda (Andrew) Kollman of Macedonia, Ohio, and grandson, Michael Williams and fiancée, Caitlin Poulson of Lawrence Park, Pa., as well as several nieces and nephews in Sicily, Italy, France and Germany and a dear neighbor and friend, Mike Kelley. Carmela was extremely blessed by her great-grandson, Weston who brought her much joy.

From her early years until her last, she devoted all of her time, talent and energy to being a faithful wife, devoted mother, loving Nana and passionate homemaker. Carmela was affectionately devoted to her family and she loved them more than life itself. They were the center of her world. Carmela loved gardening and produced one of the most impressive gardens around, abounding in prolific produce. Carmela loved to sing, bake homemade Italian bread, and crochet. Carmela enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family, friends and neighbors. Mama will be sadly missed and we will always feel her presence within our hearts.

She was a member of St. Gregory's Parish for 57 years and faithfully attended Mass until her health started to fail several years ago.

Her family gratefully acknowledges the comforting and caring services of the third-floor skilled nursing staff at St. Mary's East who provided warm, excellent and compassionate service to Carmela.

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake Street, North East, Pa., on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at 1 p.m. from St. Gregory Catholic Church. Father Tom Brooks will officiate. Interment will be in St. Gregory Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Gregory Catholic Church, 136 W. Main Street, North East, PA 16428, or to St. Mary's Home East, 607 E. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16504.

Wished I had seen this sooner. My dad just told me of her passing! My most sincere condolences are with the whole family. I remember when Carmela worked for my father. Every time she walked past the St. Greg's she would make the sign of the cross. I am sure she is with the Lord now! Until we all meet again! She will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss.

Linda and family-

I remember your mother's beautiful gardens on Gibson Street and her diligently working in them. Her talented green thumb has been passed down and that knowledge will continue through many generations to come.
I am sincerely sorry for your loss. I know she's in good hands!

Another Angel has taken flight!
-Fostering our sorrows.
Heaven sang again that night
Receiving another soul borrowed.
Born to care for her family; while waiting
one day to reunite, now
resting with Christ eternally.
V.P.
