I miss our times in the USAF. We had some great adventures together in Texas during casual and weapons schools and then Camp Bullis! I have a lot of memories of those days and I miss you! I miss being called Choatesy or Mikesey or "Little Weasel"

As kids we spent all the holidays together grossing our the family with our antics. As teenagers we figured out how to get into trouble together and compete. While our lives went different paths in our 20's and 30's, our renewed friendship spending time at the cottage was so fun. You are so giving, so fun. Your departure leaves us so sad and asking why.

wow, i just found out about danny and it took my breathe away. I can remember all the fun danny and I had in homeroom everyday. I have the best memories of him and i am at a loss for words right now. Many years ago I told him I sang a song wearing a leather outfit (Village People). Well, after that, whenever I walked into his office I was greeted with "Hello Young Man", or "Good Morning Mr. Freaky" Always made me laugh and made the first years at SCI Albion alot easier. I was a class mates of Dans from Montclair through McDowell. He was a wonderful person and ALWAYS made me laugh! We had a wonderful conversation at the class reunion last year. I too remember laughing at Dannys humor and antics, way back to Westlake. Although we did'nt hang out with the same people, he WAS a genuinely nice boy to everyone. May his family and friends find peace and comfort, some how, in the great memories they share of him. May Danny rest in peace. It was heartwarming to see all the familiar names from McDowell HS. Can anyone of us who new Dan look back at our memories from school and not say that some of the best times were with him? As we struggle to understand this tragic loss, all we can do is make sure we take all the good memories with us. I truly hope that someday his children can appreciate how much their father was loved by his friends and family.

It truly was an honor to call Danny our friend. We are glad that we got one last chance to laugh with him and his Dad in August when they were down in Myrtle Beach. We know of no better friend, son, brother or father. When you met him you knew you met someone special. We hope he is now in peace and watching over all of us that loved him. No one can say "Danny Wertz" without a smile on their face! Everywhere you were Danny...a laugh was surely heard. Your words were always quick and full of wit. You were a true friend to all! I was one of the fortunate ones to gather at the "land" after the 25th reunion. I am still laughing about the conversations. Even though we have aged, we are still the same kids from McDowell. The loss of Danny has left a huge whole in my heart. Danny has been like a brother to me for the past 40 years. There is not a memory from Montclair, Westlake, McDowell, weddings, class reunions, annual trips to Richmond, my summer trips to Erie that does not include Danny. His sense of humor, his positive energy, his friendship, his smile and support to those he loved were just a few things I admired about him. He made me laugh, he made me cry, but mostly I was crying because he was making me laugh so hard. He loved being in the woods for as long as I can remember...and finally after 40 years in August 2009 I received an invite to the Wertz land! We sat in a circle in the woods for hours, told stories, and again laughed until we cried. I feel so fortunate to have had that day with him. Danny knew the meaning of friendship! He was the compassionate one. He always knew who was having a tough time and would give me a heads up on who needed a little extra support and prayers. He always called me "one of the guys" and I was ok with that as I felt truly honored and privilaged to be surrounded but such fine company. Danny, you will be missed by so many. My heart is so empty... but I will take that emptiness and fill it up with all the memories and joy that you have brought to me in my life. I will miss you dearly. I know that you are shining down on us all from a glorious place where you are peaceful and protected. You will never be forgotten. My deepest sympathy is extended to your family and "the guys" May they find peace and comfort in reading these stories and memories of those who love you. You will remain alive in our hearts FOREVER! You always ended our conversations, your cards, your text messages with "one, two, three what school are you from" so I am signing off with the same statement in your honor. Your life long friends know the answer to that question..."Montclair!" and you would always make me say it louder!!! I love ya Wertzie and thank you for being in my life! You made so many times in my life extra special and a whole lot more fun because you were there!
