Edith Ward Obituary

The world lost one of its sweetest, most gentle souls on Saint Joseph's Day, March 19, 2015, with the passing of Edie Ward, 81, of Las Vegas. She was born December 21, 1933, in Erie, Pennsylvania.

She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin, her children and her grandchildren. They will all miss her love for butterflies, the color yellow, morning sunshine, the Bellagio Conservatory, Sinatra music, stilettos, and her uncanny ability to know what it took to lift their moods and touch their hearts.

Edie enjoyed life on every level with her husband and best friend, Tom Ward. Their 56 year love affair was full of adventures that took them from Pennsylvania, to New York, Florida, Ohio, and Nevada, which they called home after settling in Las Vegas in 1972.

As a Nevadan, Edie worked as a bookkeeper for several homebuilders, including Baroque, and launched Starlite Realty with Patrick and Tom.

Edie had many loves, but none more special than Christmas. She started decorating around Thanksgiving, when the Grinch came out, celebrated Tom's birthday on November 30, and didn't take down a single ornament until Super Bowl Sunday. This was a time of family, faith and charity for all.

Her kind heart led Edie to help so many people and organizations. She was deeply committed to Our Lady of Wisdom Church and St. Joseph Husband of Mary Church, where she served as President of the Women of St. Joseph and was committed to their mission and events. Her infectious personality, unending smile made everyone feel special. In honor of Tom's military service, she was devoted to the Catholic War Veterans, each year making sure that every soldier was remembered.

Edie was preceded in death by her husband, Tom.

She is survived by her children Christine Ward (daughter), Rozanne Curtis (daughter), Anita Ward (daughter), and Patrick Ward (son); her grandchildren Tommy Ward and Trey Curtis; Chery Ward (daughter-in-law), Henry Curtis Jr. (son-in-law); her sister Vi Zelenak of Erie; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of Erie, Pa.

Viewing will be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 to 8 p.m., at Our Lady of Wisdom, 2120 Lindell Road, Las Vegas, Nevada 89146, with a Mass there on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10 a.m.

A memorial Mass to celebrate Edie's life will be held in Erie, Pa. on Saturday April 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1553 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16510.

God Bless Tom and Edie. Always a good time. I thought a few people like Tom across the country could keep the economy going. I member them both fondly from my youth: Home repairs; Cars; Dinner out; and Holidays at 2981 Peach Street. Edie was always cheerful, good and kind.

To all the Ward children who I knew when you were little children and then into adulthood from Erie to Las Vegas.
I loved your Mom and Dad. The last time I was with your Mom we had such a great time together in LV . She always welcomed me and my husband , Don, who was your Dad's and mother's childhood long time friend, your Dad's hunting buddy.

Your Mom had great spirituality and devotion to God. I admired her and loved her. Now she is with her beloved Tom. May she rest in peace and shine her light on all of us.

IN MEMORY OF EDIE
A kind and gentle soul,
She filled our lives with laughter
Happiness was her goal.
But the Lord God really needed her,
and took her by his side,
forever to watch over us,
an Angel in disguise.

We will miss you Edie,

It was heart breaking to me that such a beautiful friend was taken.
Though we moved from Las Vegas in 2012, we never lost touch. You
would still run by me through e-mail or phone an event you had planned.
When I was in Las Vegas, you would call and insist I meet you so you could watch my reaction to the happening to be with the special effects you knew would make a simple event special, funny, outrageous, but never to be forgotten by whoever was the recipient of said planning. We have so many pictures, gifts, letters and cards sent by you Sweet Edie. You
are always present in our home and our hearts. We love you and will
see you again.

God Bless you and I know he is.
Patricia and Peter (Rusty) Rustigian too.
