Edward Rupp Obituary
Edward J. "Butch" Rupp Jr., 73, of Erie, passed away while surrounded by his family, on December 15, 2015, at UPMC Hamot Health Center, in Erie, Pa. A lifelong resident of Erie, Pa., he was born on March 30, 1942, a son of the late Edward J. Rupp Sr. and Mildred Rinderle Rupp.
Butch graduated from Academy High School and was a lifelong resident of Erie, Pa. Prior to retiring, Butch was the owner of Rupp Auto Livery and The Bar, held the position of Deputy Coroner of Erie, and during his pre-retirement, managed the Liberty Plaza Erie Sport Store.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and travel with his family and closest friends. He was a very active member of the community, belonging to South Erie Turners, Sacred Heart Ushers Club, National Club Circolo Nazionale, V.F.W. Post 3390, Knights of Saint John and the Knights of Saint George. He touched the lives of those around him, bringing cheer to everyone's day, and could often be found making a quick run to Dee's Cigar Store to satisfy his daily lottery ticket and stogie requirements. Butch was an avid sports fan and instilled a great sense of pride, strength and the utmost faith for the Cleveland Browns, while passing along that passion to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Lori (DePalma) Rupp, two daughters: MaryAnn (Rupp) Rohan and her husband Adam of Wexford, Pa., and Allison Rupp of Holt, Michigan; four sons: Edward J. Rupp III and his wife Tina, of Wexford, Pa., Stephen Rupp Sr. and his wife Coleen, Thomas Rupp and his fiancée Julie Hogan, and Daniel Rupp and his wife Amy; two stepdaughters: Carla Lindsey-Burgert and her friend Jamie Harmon, and Angela (Lindsey) Gabbard and her husband William; a stepson: Mark Lindsey and his friend Stephanie Craft, all of Erie, Pa.; and two brothers: James Rupp Sr. (deceased) and his wife Nancy of Erie, Pa., and David Rupp and his wife Marge of Waterford, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Private services are to be held. At the request of the family, friends and relatives are encouraged to make donations to a charity held closest to their hearts, and to do so in memoriam of Butch.

A year older than me, he was probably the very first person outside my family that I ever knew. We were neighbors on Marvin Ave. and Pine Ave. before Schmitz' Funeral was built. Even as a little kid he was generous, loyal, and a mentor.

My dearest friend "Butch" have tears in my eyes as I write this, you were always there for me when I was growing up, you guided me when I had no guidence, you picked me when I was down and was always there for me. When I would return to Erie for a visit the first place I would go, right after getting off interstate, would be the sports store, to see my true friend and we would always meet at the Sunflower. I will never forget you or the times we shared or the times you were there when others were not, good bye my true friend, this surely is a sad day, I pray I get to see you on the " other side" God bless the true friend you always were.
