Elizabeth Sonntag Obituary
Elizabeth McNulty Sonntag, 82, of Erie, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. A resident of Erie all of her life, she was born December 18, 1931, a daughter of the late James and Louise Kremp McNulty.
Elizabeth was a 1949 graduate of Academy High School and was an active member of St. George Catholic Church, where she taught CCD for three years and was a member of the Rosary Society. She was Publicity Director at the Cayarie Club and was a member of the Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary and the Kearsarge Garden Club. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed flowers, sewing, and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Philip Sonntag; one sister, Kathleen McNulty; and one brother, Jack McNulty.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Donald Sonntag; two daughters, Kathleen Masek and her husband William and Mary Ann Hess and her husband John, all of Erie; four sons, David Sonntag and his wife Diane of Erie, John Sonntag and his wife Joan of Corry, Tom Sonntag and his wife Marsha of Erie, and Mark Sonntag and his wife Kristi of Florida; her twin sister, Margaret Mifsud and her husband Edward of Mayville, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren, Alexandra and Jacqueline Masek, Matthew and Katie Hess, Ryan, Joseph, Emily, Todd, Andrew, Halley, and Morgan Sonntag, Scott Sonntag and his wife Jennifer, Kelly Geary and her husband Patrick, and Margaret Sonntag; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty's family would like to thank her caregiver, Marsha Lubenski, and the staff at St. Mary's Home East for their loving care given to Betty.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to a prayer service there on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. George Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Support Fund for the Sisters of St. Joseph, 5013 West Ridge Rd., Erie, PA 16506.
