"Jarring Jack," a name which he gave himself, was my sidekick in elementary school (Lincoln), junior high school (Wilson), and hIgh school (Academy) in Erie, PA from 1946-1954. He was athletic at an early age and a self-made hero on his baseball, football, basketball, and swimming teams. He had this insatiable drive to succeed in sports from the age of 8 or 9 or even earlier.

Coach Laraway was the head coach of our Bucknell University 1966 freshman football team. While our varsity team had a mediocre year, we went undefeated. Coach Laraway was a great coach and an incredible motivator. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I can't imagine how many lives this man touched as a stranger, friend, Father, grandfather and then his coaching career, Oh boy we will never forget!

Jack was my Defensive LB coach during the Rocky River High School 1983-84 seasons. He inspired me many times to go the extra 10 yards when I thought I was spent. Recently I had another former player over and we were laughing about all the inspirational Larawayisms he'd yell during practices. He was an old school coach just like Jerry Olsen. We were wondering what he was up to, sorry to have learned about his passing here on this site . My Condolences (belated) to his family and close friends .

In 1966, Jack coached our Freshman football team at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. What a great guy! The team loved him, would have died for him. Very sorry I didn't think of contacting him before his death. He will always have a place in the hearts of all of us on that team. By the way, we went undefeated that year. Would love to talk to any of his family, friends, etc. I'm at 303-799-1429 or [email protected].

A man that made a difference in many of lives. Hopefully there are new coaches stepping up to coach our young with as much fun and smarts of their sport. A man's man has left us all! God Bless!

Laraway Family,
My sympathy and prayers to you all for there is nothing missed more than the love and dedication of a great Dad.
Jack and Ron...going back 45 years or so (not too long ago)...why didn't we have your Dad on the field between French and Holland Streets giving us (Saint John's gang) some pointers during our flag football games? Darn.
Can't you see 'em now? Your Dad leading football games in Heaven, with wings!!!
Take care.

I cannot express in words the great loss I feel in my Heart for Mr. Jack Laraway. He was and will be a motivator and mentor to a lot of individuals. Mr. Laraway was "old school" when it came to coaching and motivating others. He was one of a kind "a great man" as he expected nothing but the best from everyone everyday in sports and life. I loved this man and he will be telling God how to run heaven to make it a better place! I'm crying for a man that would push you to be your best and then sit down with you and tell you he cares for you and would listen to your concerns. Mr. Laraway told me "when I stop yelling and motivating you that's the time to be concerned". I Love this man God Speed to Jack & Ron and the entire Larawary Family! Scott Grau

Deepest sympathy to the Laraway family. We will surely miss Coach Laraway. He was tough but he was alot of fun too. He gave some classic pre-game talks. Especially remember at Avon Lake in 75. We will miss him. Jim Leitch Westlake '76
