James Woods Obituary


James "Jim" P. Woods, age 86, of Fairview, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2015, at UPMC Hamot Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born in Altoona, Pa., on September 17, 1929, the son of the late John R. and LaVerna Flick Woods.

He was a graduate of Altoona High School in 1947 and received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1956.

Jim served in the United States Army with the 462 Quarter Master Co. during the Korean War.

Jim retired from the steel industry after many years. His family meant the world to him. He was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church, a 50-year member of the Elks Club and a member of Parkinson Partners.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Woods.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Therese J. Woods; four sons: William A. Woods and his wife Anne of Charlottesville, Va., Thomas A. Woods and his wife Elizabeth of Ebensburg, Pa., Stephen G. Woods and his wife Rebecca of Fairview, and David A. Woods of Harrisburg; a brother Richard "Dick" Woods of Bowie, Md.; a sister Mary Edna Stetter of Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother Fred Woods of Altoona, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Holy Cross Church on Friday from 3 to7 p.m. and may attend a Mass of Christian Burial there on Saturday, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Tyler, celebrant. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard.

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Church, 7100 West Ridge Road, Fairview, PA 16415, or Parkinson Partners, P.O. Box 10546, Erie, PA 16514.

Aunt Therese and Family, It has been so long since we have seen any of you but the memories of all the times we spent together are firmly imprinted in our hearts. We are so sorry to hear about Uncle Jim and empathize with the sorrow you are all going through right now.
