John Compton Obituary

John R. (Jack) Compton Retired Erie Police Detective John R. (Jack) Compton, 69, of North East, Tuesday March 7, 2006 at Hamot Medical Center. He was born on September 4, 1936 in Meadville, Pa. son of the late Homer and Ruth Hoke Compton. Jack attended Meadville High School and Graduated from St. Agatha High School. In school he participated in football, baseball, basketball and track. He graduated from Gannon University with a B.S. Degree in Business in 1959 and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. Following college he was employed by various pharmaceutical companies as a sales representative. Jack retired in 2001 as a police officer, having worked for the Erie Police Department for 31 years. At his retirement he was assigned as a detective in the I.D. Section. He was a member of Erie F.O.P. Lodge #7. Jack belonged to many social clubs in Erie, including the South Erie Turners and was a social member of V.F.W. Post #470 Erie and the American Legion Post #105 in North East. Many people will remember Jack for his acts of kindness, in his work and by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife Stella Seene Compton, daughters, Caren Compton Rosenberg of Youngstown, Ohio, Cathy Rzodkiewicz of Canfield, Ohio, Rosemarie (Sookie) Million and her husband Jim of North East and Margie Seene of Orlando, Fla., and one brother Thomas Compton and his wife Charlene of Meadville, Pa. Also survived by six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces. Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, Independent Care Group Affiliate, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Saturday from 7 to 9 P.M., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 A.M. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1500 Freeport Rd., North East, PA. Rev. Charles Wertz will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Community Nursing Services of North East, 7 Park St., North East, PA 16428 or to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1500 Freeport Rd., North East, PA 16428. Erie Police Retirees Association will gather for services at the funeral home on Sunday at 4 P.M. Active F.O.P. members are welcome to attend. To send condolences please visit www.icgerie.com.
