Leonard Stepnowski Obituary



Leonard Peter Stepnowski, 88, of Union City, PA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Corry Manor. Born on August 22, 1927 in Erie, Pa., he was the son of the late Peter and Stella (Pressor) Stepnowski.

Leonard was a PFC (Private First Class) in the United States Army Air Force, joining on October 1945. He belonged to the 1389th AAF Base Unit Bermuda Base Command and worked as an Air Transport Mechanic. Leonard was honorably discharged in January 1947.

Leonard worked at Hammermill Paper Company, Gebhart Fuel Company, Arial Supply, Marty's Garage and finally Step's Auto Body, where he worked with his brother Walter for over 30 years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, mowing his lawn, and looking out his back window for deer and other wildlife.

He married Erma Jean (Shontz) Stepnowski on November 28, 1953 and was blessed with a marriage that lasted over 50 years. Erma Jean passed away on Jan. 14, 2004.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Leonard is also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Walter and Ruby Stepnowski, his son Steven Stepnowski, and two infant granddaughters, Brenda and Regina.

He is survived by his sons Rick (Kathy) Stepnowski, Jerry (Paula) Stepnowski, John Stepnowski, his daughter Lynne (Rick) Jackson, and daughter-in-law, Jean Stepnowski; 17 grandchildren: Stacy, Kim, Rick, Tony, Stephanie, Jana, Sarah, Maggie, Ben, Joe, Maria, Robert, Todd, Tim, Troy, Tori and Tara; and 8 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Katherine, Elizabeth, Julia, Carter, Tyler, Ivy and Hannah.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday June 29, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home, Inc., 62 South Main Street, Union City, PA 16438. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church, 9 Third Avenue, Union City, PA 16438. Father Thomas Suppa will officiate. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday June 30th. Interment will be at St. Teresa's Cemetery. Full military honors will be observed. Memorials are requested to St. Teresa Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 9 Third Avenue, Union City, PA 16438.
