Lillian Laukaitis Obituary

Lillian (Lilly) E. Laukaitis died peacefully on March 4, 2021 in Palm Harbor, Fla. She was born in 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Emily McHale of Pittston, Pa.

Several years after graduating from Pittston High School, she married Joseph A. Laukaitis, also of Pittston, with whom she shared her life for nearly 60 years. They were both active parishioners at St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Lawrence Park, Pa., where they enjoyed many wonderful friendships. Lilly's life was all about family. She was a loving wife, a wonderful Mom, and a devoted Grandma to her six grandchildren who loved her immensely. Family and friends alike knew her to be warm, compassionate, and generous.

Lilly loved people and was always a willing listener. She was full of life, quick to laugh, and always ready to try something new… like downhill skiing at age 50, roller skating at 60, and roller blading and pickle ball in her 70s!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Mary Helen Laukaitis.

She is survived by four of her children, Margaret Laukaitis of Florida, Joe (Jayne) Laukaitis of Maryland and their children Matt and Annie, Julie (Jeff) Bednarski of Florida and their children Lindsey and Mike, and Mike (Christina) Laukaitis of Maryland and their children Helena and Sarah. She is also survived by her brother Joe McHale of Pa., and her two sisters Amy Heberlig of N.J. and Midge Butsavage of Pa., who have all remained very close and loving over the years, except for when they played Pinochle together! She also remained very close with her sister-in-law Helen Pisano of Pa. Lilly will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The funeral is being handled by Baloga Funeral Home, Inc., in Pittston, Pa. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Emmaus Ministries Soup Kitchen in Erie, Pa., or to the charity of one's choice.

Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I was saddened to hear of your loss and send my deepest condolences. What a wonderful legacy your mother has left for all of you! Although I didn't know her, I feel that I knew her through your (Margaret's) deep compassion and love for your patients. I was privileged to be one of them, and am a huge fan. You are missed, prayed for and loved. It is so hard to lose your mother, but I know you served and loved her well. Blessings to all of you! Dear Margaret and family,
I wanted to tell you how sorry I was to read of your Mom’s death. However, I also know how she enjoyed her time with all of you and how much she will enjoy being reunited with your Dad.
Margaret, I often have thought of you and hoped you are well. I do not often see the obituaries and so, I figured God wanted me to know of Lil’s passing and be in touch with you. I have fond memories of her gentle ways and broad smile.
Much love and many prayers,
Carol Morehouse, SSJ
