Michael Steiner Obituary

Michael J. Steiner, age 78, of Millcreek, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born in Erie on June 23, 1939, he was a son of the late John F. and Mary Yolanda "Yola" (Milano) Steiner.

Mike graduated from Strong Vincent High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He later graduated from Gannon College while working and attending classes at night. He was the plant manager at Hammermill Paper Company before working at Erie Malleable Iron (EMI) in various positions spanning 20 years as plant engineer, vice president, and retiring as president. Mike will be remembered as not a boss but a leader that cared about all his employees at EMI. Starting in 1995, and until 2005, he worked doing a variety of jobs at his own company, Steiner Builder and General Contractor.

A true intellectual with a vast wealth of knowledge, Mike loved history, reading, and math. Over the years, he patiently helped and taught both his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, boating, and had a love for music. For 16 years he served as the president of Lake Placid Park in Largo, Fla. His greatest pride and joy was his family as he adored his wife, his daughters, and grandchildren. He was the center of their universe and their rock.

Mike is survived by the love of his life for nearly 55 years, Patricia (Brightman) Steiner; four daughters, Pam George (Bill), Becky Waller (Dan Cox), Karen Mazzocco all of Erie, and Nicole Berry (David) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Lindsea and Jason Waller, Michael and Natalie George, Anthony and Sophia Mazzocco, and Mitchell, Emily, and Connor Berry; a great-grandchild, Nathan Shreve; a sister, Bonnie Montevecchio (Caesar); a brother, Bradley Steiner (Mary Jo); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael's family will be forever grateful to the doctors and nurses at West Penn Hospital for their compassion and empathy they gave to him.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m., at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd. Services will be held there on Wednesday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Harry Johns officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.
