Mildred Darby Obituary

Mildred Darby, 86, of Erie, Pa., passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021. She was born August 22, 1934 in Bay springs, Mississippi, daughter of the late Charles and Ada Ulmer-Crosby, Sr.

She was a resident of Erie, Pennsylvania for over seventy years. She retired from Hammermill International Paper Company, after forty plus years of service in which she worked in several capacities.

She was a lifelong member of Morning Star Baptist church. Mildred loved gardening, travelling, gameshows and meeting new people. She was involved in her community and active in many neighborhood associations.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John H. Darby, Sr., three brothers – Charles Crosby, Samuel Crosby and Wallace Crosby and two sisters – Gerta Crosby and Hazel Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Christine (Alexander) Schneider of Virginia; her daughter Cynthia of Erie; her son John Darby Jr., of Newark, Delaware, her grandson Keshawn Darby, and several nephews, nieces and cousins; good friends Mary Crosby and Ida Jordan.

She was a private person who loved her family and will be dearly missed by them all.

Friends may visit with the family at Morning Star Baptist Church, 327 E. 23rd St., on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., where a home going celebration will immediately follow Rev. Tim Ward eulogizing and Rev. Duane Hunter officiating. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery. Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., Erie, PA 16504. All CDC guidelines will be followed and everyone must wear a mask.
