Peter Glaz Obituary

Peter P. "Uncle Pete" Glaz, age 70, of Millcreek Township, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at his home. He was born in Erie, Pa., on November 21, 1947 to Peter Glaz Sr. and Geraldine Gruver Glaz.

Peter attended Tech Memorial High School, joined the US Army and served for 10 years with two tours in Vietnam.

He spent over 20 years as a successful car salesman in the Erie area after his return to Erie from the armed services. He retired from the maintenance department at the former Tri-State Institute and served as a VFW State Service Officer to help veterans apply for disability and pension benefits.

Pete loved muscle cars and motorcycles and over the course of his lifetime owned many. If he trusted you, you got to drive his red Corvette.

Billy Simpson VFW Post 470 became his second home for the last 15 years. He served on many Committees and also served as Post Service Officer, Adjutant, and Post Commander. He then served as the VFW District 28 Commander overseeing 25 Posts in three counties and was also named VFW National Aide-de-Camp that supported the VFW Department of Pennsylvania Commander. Pete always gave of his time to assist countless veterans over the years in obtaining the benefits and awards that were due to them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David Glaz and sisters Loralie and Merralie.

Peter is survived by his wife, Rebecca J. Pruveadenti, his daughter Nicole Glaz and step-son James Pruveadenti. He is further survived by his sisters Rosalie Nagy, Natalie Zimmerman, and Diane Pulliam and brother-in-law Al Pulliam of Arizona. Peter is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews but had a special bond with five nephews and their wives, Al Nagy (Lori), Greg Nagy, Tim Nagy (Jackie), Bob Nagy (Leah) and Mike Nagy (Donna) who he loved unconditionally. Lastly, Pete is survived by his beloved "adopted" kids, Bart and Jen Wood. Pete is also survived by many Veteran Brothers and he loved them all. Special mention goes to VFW Quartermaster Joseph Benacci and State Commander Thomas "Ace" Hanzes.

A special thank you goes out to Kathy Becker for all her help and support. Additionally, the family wishes to thank the nurses at Great Lakes Hospice who helped transition him from this life to the next. Special thanks to Tom and Christina.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) Erie, PA 16506 on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. for a Celebration of Life for "Uncle Pete". At 3:00 p.m. a Veteran's Service will take place along with full military honors.

Dear Rebecca, Nicole, & James,
I'm so sorry for the loss of Peter. He was a good man.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I am Peter's uncle. His father was my oldest brother. My family and I live in Columbia, SC.

I've not seen Peter in a number of years and am extremely proud that he dedicated his life to helping veterans.

Rest in peace, dear nephew,

Alan Nagy
