Philip D. Skip Holmes

Philip D. "Skip" Holmes, age 76, of Harborcreek Township, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015, at UPMC-Hamot. He was born in Erie, on August 3, 1938, a son of the late William J. and Irene Abromoski Holmes.

Skip was a graduate of the former Academy High School, where he was a member of the school marching band that performed at the Rose Bowl. He was a longtime employee of Urick Foundry, prior to his retirement. After his retirement, he had worked at Brake Parts in North East. Skip was a talented woodworker and also enjoyed hunting and watching John Wayne Western movies.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Carole J. Szymanowski Holmes; two children: David C. Holmes (Susan) of Erie and Christine Holmes Herman (Christopher) of Cape Coral, Fla.; one brother, Robert Holmes, Ph.D. (Sandra) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren: Julie Lauscher (Milton) of Union City and Leah Wicker of Erie; a niece, Ara; and two nephews: Zachary and Evan.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd., in Harborcreek Township), on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m., and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
