Rene Levesque Obituary


Rene A. Levesque, 73, passed away peacefully, on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on January 7, 1942, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Blaise and Margaret Madelyn (McNamara) Levesque.

Rene married the love of his life, Patricia McAninch, on November 30, 1961, in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, after they graduated from McDowell High School, Class of 1960.

Mr. Levesque was the owner and operator of Evergreen Lake Park in Conneaut, Ohio for 35 years, retiring in 2005. He also was a school bus driver for Millcreek Schools and dispatched for Roadway Express.

Rene was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151 and the Conneaut Moose Lodge #472. He enjoyed golfing and playing Texas-Hold'em poker, where he made it to the World Series of Poker. Rene also enjoyed playing cards at the Odd Fellows. He was an avid golfer. He poured his heart and soul into his campground and loved spending time there.

Mr. Levesque is survived by his wife, Patricia Levesque; children, David (Jennifer) Levesque, Deborah Whelpley and Daniel Levesque; grandchildren, Stephanie and Steven (Shaylynn Skidmore) Levesque, Andrew (Kelley) Whelpley, Rebecca (Patrick) Peterson; great-grandson, Cole Peterson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Georgie and Leo Smigel; nephews, Sam and Leo Smigel; and his buddy, Toby, the chocolate lab.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a brother.

The family will receive friends and family at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, Ohio, on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2-6 p.m. Brief remarks by friends and family will take place at 6 p.m., at the funeral home, on Sunday. Family and friends are invited to the Conneaut Days Inn, immediately following services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Rene may be given to Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Rene and I were both very competitive. I think it was either fifth or sixth grade that the teacher decided to give special awards for each class. Rene and I were entered for the history award which he won with his rendition of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. I was heartbroken. Such is life.
