Robert Duane "Bob" Boorum

1933 - 2017

Robert "Bob" Duane Boorum, 83, of Erie, went to be with the Lord on September 15, 2017. He was born in Olean, N.Y., on December 8, 1933, to the late Milton A. and Virginia E. Boorum.

Bob moved to Buffalo, N.Y. in 1942 where graduated from Pine Hill School in 1951. Bob served in the New York Air National Guard for nine years.

Bob worked at the Buffalo Slag Company until he was transferred to Erie Sand and Gravel in 1963 until his retirement 47 years later in 2000. While in Erie, Bob received a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Gannon University.

Bob married the love of his life, Nancy Marie Downey, on February 19, 1955. They were together 56 years until she went to meet the Lord on March 6, 2011.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; their daughter, Mary; his brother, Dick; and his parents, Milton and Virginia.

Bob is survived by a daughter, Wendy, of Apopka, Fla.; and two sons, Michael, of Philadelphia and Thomas, of Erie; a sister, Pat Rzepka, of Buffalo, N.Y.; five grandsons, Robert, Matthew, Ryan, Richard and James; and several nieces and nephews in Buffalo.

Bob was active in the Erie community. He served on the Board of the Achievement Center and was Treasurer of the University Club, President of the Erie Maennerchor, and an Officer of the Erie Sertoma Club. The highlight of Bob's community service was his 51 years as an active member and leader of the Erie Maennerchor Christmas Party for Exceptional Children.

Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., on Thursday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and may attend a prayer service there Friday at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 1:30 p.m.
